Yes, we have a grit filter on the end of our uptake pipe, and stainless steel mesh screens on the pump. We have had no problem with dirt in the system in 2 1/2 years.
Our 1998 Emerald had no filter either, just the wee thing on the pump in the Aquaroll, again no problems there.
The only way to check if you have an in-line filter is to follow the water pipes from where they enter the van. Any filter will be somewhere accessible, usually it will be right after the entry point if a manufacturer fit. If fitted only to filter drinking water then below the kitchen sink is a popular choice.
