We went to Abersoch in August and virtually every site had full signs up. The owners of the site we stayed at put up a notice in the shower blocks warning of low pressure due to excessive use of water on the peninsula.

The site wasn't cheap but we certainle enjoyed our time there. We had a fantastic meal one night but cant remember the name of the pub!!!. It was fully booked but the landlord made us very welcome and managed to fit us in as we wanted to eat straight away. Although it was generally busy in Abersoch and surrounding beaches we always managed to park, shop, etc.

Long may ' Wales empty this summer ' continue!! Cant wait for next Summer.

We went to Pembrey for a week and the site was full all week, can't see how their bookings were down at all. Direct access to the country park and the beach loved it for the peace and quiet.

With the exception of Tredegar aren't all these sites you are naming in West Wales? Apart from Brecon that is - that's in mid Wales

Pembrey is South Wales, just below Carmarthen on the coast.

We've got friends with sites around here and they both say they had an excellent year.

I suspect the reporter asked at a couple of poor sites somewhere and then made the presumption that the rest of South Wales was the same.

It depends, there is a southern region of Wales on the visit Wales website that would exclude Brecon and Pembrokeshire, but to a lot of people when you refer to South Wales these areas are included. Books I have on my book shelf when referring to south Wales do include them. The re reading the report it does sound like its referring to the southern region which would probably explain our experiences.

Talking to my mother born and brought up in Wales she would refer to The whole of the area including Brecon and Pembrokeshire as South Wales too!

Go to West Wales and tell the inhabitants they are part of South Wales and gauge their reaction...

Whilst I do not live in Wales I am half welsh, my mother is welsh and many of our family are still in south Wales, this meant most of my summers as a child were spent in South Wales. We were in South Wales this summer meeting up with family who live there.

I was merely pointing out that a lot of people and books do refer to the whole of the area as south Wales and actually agreeing with you that the article probably wasn’t covering the area that we all think some of us think of as South Wales.

It’s interesting Rune Caster you don't say where you are from?

Depends whose definition of "South Wales" you're going by, I suppose. Is it political, geographical or simply a tourist board region. It's the same for the West Country in England - some people claim that it only includes Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, others include the likes of Gloucestershire, which seems to be pushing it a bit to me even though Gloucestershire is undoubtedly in the west of the country!

Wasn't Cornwall referrred to as West Wales a few hundred years ago? What's now called West Wales is actually the western part of southern Wales, so where does that leave Anglesey, western North Wales or Northwestern Wales?
