DSB, I loved the full explanation. Like you I like to understand things.
This info is also useful to me as I am having to change my towball to an alko one when my new van arrives. It has given me the info to ensure I have the right one. Luckily for me a friend had a new ball he had never used, and its all the right numbers for my hitch. Perfect!

I'm glad it's been of some use to others as well. It's only when you start looking at all this that one becomes aware of how complicated it all is. Hope all works out well when you get your new van - and hope you manage to beat the VAT rise too!
Best wishes,

Thanks very much D S B, I'm not sure I understood it all but used the information you have given to a man who does and on the back of it we are having a different towball fitted on Saturday

Glad you're getting sorted. It only takes a couple of minutes to have the tow ball changed. I just walked in to our local fitter who did it there and then and I paid about £14-15 for the tow ball - free fitting, so it's only a small sum for a little piece of mind.
