We started with tents and then moved to a folding camper.  It was quicker to set up, had comfy beds, cooker, fridge and dining table.  The wife felt it was draughty.  The other reason that we moved to a van is that there was little usable storage space and it was hard to preload it before setting out on a trip.  There was also the issue of drying the canvas, but I can't say it was much of a problem.

We then bought a small 4 berth, but it still had little storage space, but did us well for 4 years.  We part-exchanged it at the show for our current van, which has fixed bed and loads of storage.

Hi we went from a tent to a caravan. Although I loved the tent the planning packing of everything used to be a dread, also If the weather forecast looked more than a bit doubtful my partner would come up with excuses to the point were you would give it a miss.

Now with the caravan I sort it out in February with clothes and basic provisions  that then stay in there for the year. this way when we get home from work on a Friday we can just hitch up (not forgetiting the bread, butter and milk from the house)and off we go, there is always a tin of something to eat when we get to wherever I have phoned on the way, and pick up the rest whilst out and about the day after. Clothing then gets washed and ironed and put back ready for the next trip.

We have had complaints from family that we are never at home, Our answer to that is we have places to visit and people to meet along the way,

Enjoy your caravan and have fun

Many many years ago we went tenting in the lake district. It rained. It rained and it rained and the wind drove it horizontally into our tent, so in the middle of the night we tried to turn the tent around from inside - only to have the wind change direction... We were soaked, our clothes were soaked, our duvet was soaked and I said "Never again"
So we bought our first little van - a tiny little tin thing with a 2 ring stove and no electric at all. Never looked back. We're on our 4th van now and I'd never ever want to go back to tents.
I love having a caravan, and we've has some wonderful trips away with the kids, and I'm sure we'll have many more.
Good luck with your van and I'm sure you'll love it too.
