If you hate washing up consider using cook in bags in the slow cooker. You can buy dedicated liners from the States but they work out rather expensive because of the shipping costs.
I usually put a few inches of water in my (large crockpot) cooker and cook cubes of meat, tossed in some seasoning (bought mixes are fine)in the bag, you don`t need to add any fluids to the bag. In another bag I cook potatoes or a mix of veg cut to about a quarter of the size of the cubes of meat or put into the cooker an hour or two before the meat which cooks more quickly.
I also cook whole joints of meat in bags in the slow cooker again with just a couple if inches of water in the pot.
You do sometimes get a little leakage from the meat bag if the top topples sideways but its much less of a cleaning issue than cooking without the bags.
