Frittata in the multi cooker always goes down well in our van. If no washing up facilities you can pre prepare it and only have to wipe out the cooker after so no mess at all. If washing up facilities then bangers and mash or good old spag bol.
We try to keep it simple as too much bar b q ing gets expensive and then we spend pitch money lol. The more economical we can be the more time we get away.
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
I have recently bought a slow cooker (on special offer at Sainsburys) and have used it a lot at home. I am thinking of taking it with me to the van as I could then prepare a meal before we go out for the day and come back to tea already cooked!
How do you cook the spare ribs in the slow cooker? I always thought it needed liquid with any meat or veg. Would be interested to know how it's done as my lot love reggae reggae sauce
Just put your meat in and a whole bottle of Jerk sauce and a small cup of water. Make sure the sauce and meat are stirred up so each piece has a coating on it some of the meat will be out of the sauce. I usually leave it overnight to marinade but you dont need too. Turn it on 6-8 hours before you want it. Half hour before eating take off the lid and stir up again carefully so the meat stays on the bone and leave it to cook with the lid off this will thicken up the sauce, or you can do it quick in a wok keep basting as the sauce thickens. Then invite your uncle floggitt round to see if there as good as mine!

For years I used my crockpot just for baking potatoes in our caravan(fussy child), no fluids added. You don`t get cripy skins but they do taste nice. However, you do need to check as not all slow cookers can be used without liquid.
These days I put a few inches of water in the bottom add cubed meat in a cookin bag and cubed veg (both readily available from supermarkets, even in France, prepared for cooking)in another, no liquid in the meat bag just a little seasoning and only a little water added to the veg. Simple and easy to clear up!
Other wise its meat, seasoned and cooked on the Beauclaire (fantastic bit of kit) with salad and maybe a pan of boiled potatoes (never peeled) also cooked on the Beauclaire.
I love cooking and love fresh food but I`m not about to spend hours preparing it in the caravan :)
Whatever we can cook at home we cook in the caravan, you have an oven grill and 4 rings. I do use a mini deep fat fryer outside (so van doesnt stink of grease) for chips Scampi etc, BBQs a must, remoska for delicious grub and the good old cooked brekkie!! When am in my little campervan however we do rough it but the COBB is a godsend!!!

On holiday have the time to go and browse food shops/markets, find something a little different, take it back to the van and enjoy cooking. Must be the hunter gatherer in me! Sat outside my van, chopping and cooking, with a glass of wine, then sitting outside to eat....fantastic.
This just goes to prove that our hobby means different things to different people; as long as you're enjoying yourself, and not causing offence to anyone, do what makes you and yours happy.

Too true. We're much the same as youself It's the simple things like this that are really enjoyable to us - but when we're camping we do have odd take away as well ... invariably it's disapointing though !

Beans on toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, Marks/Sparks ready meal in the evening washed down with a good bottle of wine, wifes on hols to, so no cooking only stuff that can go in the oven and be warmed up, or we eat out.
Wifes' on hols too ? - shame on you micky it's not her `job' anyway !
We don't eat that much differently to when at home to be honest. Main differences are we don't do roasts, nothing very smelly unless we can cook it outside as don't want the caravan (or tent if in that) stinking of fish or curry.
Apart from the that it's a good difference - as we like trying local produce
We have steaks, fried chicken dishes, stir fries, pasta dishes, sausages.... god I'm hungry now...

I do the majority of the cooking when we're away & I love it. We've now got a new Cadac to replace our old Beauclaire so it'll be interesting to see how it performs. I use two Air grills on a table in the awning for roasting chicken & stuff. The only time we use frozen stuff is when we're away & lidls frozen roaster do well in the air cookers. I put a knife through the back of a chicken & splay it out flat, it cooks in no time & we all have a nice roast meal for not a lot of money. We've never cooked in our vans to keep cooking smells out. We often have rib eye steak with all the trimmings or home made burgers sometimes. Cosidering rib eye steak is cheaper than fish & chips you can't go wrong.
We tend to mostly eat self catering but do have a takeaway a couple of nights over the holiday. With 6 of us it comes a bit costly to buy food out too often though.
For our August break I come home to work for the first week & I take a cottage pie, Spag Bol & a huge home made special fried rice along with Chow mein & sauces from the local chinese back down with me, the family know what I'm likely to bring down when I return for the last two weeks & they look forward to tea on the first night of me being there.
