We only carry one calor lite bottle in the front box, along with watering can (for the loo), peg bag, levelling blocks etc. We've had the bottle for about a year and it's not half empty yet, we use gas for the cooker and cadac but that's about it. When it starts to get low we will probably buy another calor lite and carry the two until the first one runs out then go back to the one again. There are also the bp lite bottles as a different option.

A simple and very rough guide to nose weight . One FIT person around 80kg , retract rear legs and see `van does not tip backwards , go to front and lift . If it shoots up it is light , if you have to struggle a bit , it will be reasonably close to 80kg . BEST IDEA , spend the money on a nose weight gauge and be sure . Can make the difference between a nasty snaky ride and a pleasant fuss free trip .

If you have only just switched to caravanning from a tent , keep asking , safety beats silence .

I couldn't agree more, I've seen some states on the motorways, I only have one 4kg  Gas bottle and spare wheel in the front locker at the moment. I'm off to buy a nose weight gauge this morning and going to check what the weight is, not that confident with the bathroom scales plus mrs would kill me if i broke them.....

Thanks for replies Guys

i did.it flattened them when i tried.lol, now have a nose weight gauge not as reliable as you may think though.i found with mine it weighs ok at first and gives a good reading i think is correct.BUT after this you can lift or push down the hitch to make it read whatever you want it to and it stops there.at £15 i do not think this should be possible.make sure the caravan is level before using.
