What irritates me is the 'point 9' bit, to make it look cheaper, surely no-one is taken in by this anymore? Even if you actually got the point 9 fill, how would they give you your point 1 change? Cut a penny into 10 pieces and give you a piece? No, it's rounded up to the next penny anyway, so the point 9 bit actually doesn't exist. Must be a law against that.

£1.34.9 (so that will be £1.35.0 then) at my tesco in Kidsgrove, Staffs.

Doesn't pay to count your chickens and shout about it!!!

Think some people are getting confused. We are talking diesel here.

Do you really go in and buy 1 litre of fuel? Yes, it is rounded to the nearest penny, but if you buy 10 litres at 139.9p per litre, you pay £13.99 not £14, unless you go over the 10 litres.

I don't understand why Tesco price diesel/petrol differently at their stores. Surely they pay the same price for diesel/petrol regardless of which store its going to?

It's not just Tesco, Shell petrol stations differ in price even in the same area. The one nearest to me is currently charging £1.37.9 for diesel - the one a mile away in the other direction is £1.38.9 and the one the far side of town is £1.40.9! So how do they work that out then? Same fuel, same town, why the difference?

BP is worse though, round here it's £1.45.9 - needless to say I don't go there!

Shell forecourts are a franchise, so each is an independent business which is effectively leasing the site/brand name from the parent company. As such, they are free to set their own prices, although presumably within a certain margin so as not to devalue the brandname.

Do you always buy in tens of litres?

2 litres £2.798
3 litres £4.197
4 litres £5.596
5 litres £6.995

Etc etc.

Not that I’m overly fussed about the rounding up, but the original point is perfectly relevant.

Hi, My local jet garage £138.9 if i remember right, oil conpany only paid 1% tax on their profit for last year. they got taxed an extra 5p ? in April, and were allowed to pass it on in higher prices at pump, its not just rip off Britain, its down right Greed, Legal Highway robbery, Dick Turpin had more scruples.

Is there an organisation (such as OfCom) that regulates petrol garages? There must be someone to vent our feelings to (other than the Government, who do nothing).

The government will do nothing about high fuel prices, they need the tax revenue from the high prices & also profitable fuel companies pay more tax.

All the forecourts seem to vary heavily through the Midlands, ranging between 1.34 to 1.42

Having migrated from the supermarkets sometime ago and found a marked improvement in running and economy, I'm happy to pay a few extra pence per litre and fill at either Shell or Esso now, currently 1.39

... but that's another debate. I won't buy the cheap full at all now.

Want to know when fuel prices are due to rise or fall ??
Check supermarket money off fuel promotions.
Prices go up just before the filling station opens the day promotions start
They drop just after closing the day it ends.
No promotions here at the moment.
Paid 135.8 ltr for diesel here, drove 14 miles...... Same diesel 154.5

Down to 140.9 ltr for diesel in a local town here, but the other week the same place was charging 149.9.  Makes a change for the price to go down there at all, especially by that much, but still a shocking price.

I don't think the government does need to charge so much on tax - but they can - so they do.
