Tried viaMichelin once going to east coast and it suggested leaving Congleton and going via Bosley (A54) over to near Cat and Fiddle (A537) going into Buxton. Whilst confident tow ers might be ok with this...my OH towing our new to us van would not have been. Lost confidence in viaMichelin because of that! Just glad we knew road so realised not suitable for us.
Would love to find sat nav or similar which really does do caravan friendly routes as I think it takes ages to plan our routes anywhere.
Many of us would really love to have a reliable way to plan routes which avoid white-knuckle towing. But we don't always get what we want.
I don't think there are any satnavs or route planners which can guarantee to keep you away from all narrow roads, hairpin bends or very steep hills (and any combination of those three) since much of that data simply hasn't been collected for each & every tiny bit of country road.
I have never liked satnavs and have always used a good road atlas. These days I combine the map with checking out the unknown bits with Google Earth. Lunch stops etc can also be checked with Google Earth, to see what service areas offer in the way of unit parking space. On long 'A' road journeys check for lay-bys that might be needed. Satnav won't do that for you.

Agreed, but when picking a lay-by I want to avoid ones on uphill stretches (it's hard enough to accelerate out of a lay-by & into traffic even on the flat).
Of course, even Google Earth won't tell you if your chosen lay-by is going to be chock full of HGVs when you need it.
I have just looked at the Camping and Caravan route planner and even there site states that the Caravan option helps you to calculate petrol and tolls but not a Caravan suitable route ......

Elevation finder will help with working out if a lay-by is on a hill or not. Enter the location you want and then click on the map and it puts a marker on it. Which when you put your pointer by, it gives you the elevation. If you put several markers down it gives you a picture of what the area is like. It is good for working out if a campsite is sloping or not too.

eek lol deffo not good for a caravan lol
Helmsley to Pickering via Sutton Bank is an 'interesting route. They're both to the east of Sutton Bank.
If OP still needs help.....
from Darlington go down towards Boro, and then follow a map to Stokesley and go through Great Broughton to Helmsley.
