How long do these low wattage kettles take to boil? For two regular sized mugs? Read on Amazon a review that said it took 10 mins! Surely not?

Never timed our low watt kettle but it does take ages to boil.

Low wattage do take longer to boil, but that is one of the joys of caravanning -  enjoying life a bit slower!!!

Guess the fact it can boil at all is more important than speed - had a nightmare trip at the weekend (to Baildon moor) with ECU going off for the entire site. Often for hours on end. Entire saturday night with no tv, and fridge and water on gas! Worth spending the extra on a low voltage one and pondering life for a few mins more than tripping things and annoying neighbours.

I prefer my whistling kettle too, we don't have gas at home so there is some novelty in using gas when I can lol

I have both types and have never tripped electric on a UK site using a conventional domestic kettle.  Obviously don't use a "quick boil" high amp kettle and don't use when a 2kw electric heater/hair dryer/etc is on but otherwise I doubt you'll have problems.

However if you go to France..............................low amp/watt is best

The OP did say enough for two regular sized mugs - which made it an interesting question to me too as I'm looking to buy one but would prefer things to happen a little faster than ten minutes (not least because I'd probably have forgotten I wanted a cuppa by then!)

I'd seen a comment in a caravanning magazine recently about a kettle made by Pennine Leisure Supplies - a 750W kettle that held a litre of water, that didn't mention how long that would take to boil either.

I bought a low wattage kettle today and will test it tonight for those interested. Its a stainless one that came from Kenmore Caravans (£19).

I'll try it with just over two mugs worth and let you know how long it takes.

BTW White Rose, did you get sorted with a van? Seem to recall we were searching the same sort of area? We got the Golden Crown Signet, and have been away three times already since buying it just over a month ago! Love it.

You?

It's good to hear you sounding so enthusiastic about your new caravan!  And yes please to a kettle update :-)

Yes, we finally found the right van - we picked up our Lunar Apollo on Saturday from Albion Caravans, who really impressed me with their attitude (in fact I should probably do a praise thread about them sometime when I'm not working quite so hard ).  We're trying very hard to clear our diary to get away, but its arrival has coincided with three weeks of back to back visitors (we have one night with the spare room empty!), so can't get anywhere til the weekend of the 18th. The best we've done so far is have an afternoon cleaning it and a picnic lunch!

They're just up the road from me in Apperley Bridge. I had a look while I was looking but couldn't stretch to even their cheapest (apart from one old Fleetwood they had in). Glad you're sorted anyway. They did seem a nice bunch when I was there. In fact mine might go there for a service.

We must live pretty close to each other then, as they're only a couple of miles up the road from us too - something that Mr WR was very pleased about when he had such a short journey for his first tow home :-)  No wonder we seemed to be following each other round!

And yes, they didn't really have anything in our budget either, but we still seemed to come away with a caravan - It would be fair to say our finances are a trifle stretched for the next couple of months! I was happy though, there seems to be no damp in the van, their warranty sounds good, they listened to what we were saying and fixed what we asked for without question or haggling, and they were generally very "can do - all things are possible" about the whole process. Will hold fire until we've tested the van properly, but I'd recommend them so far.

Apologies to the original poster - I've gone a bit off topic

Hi Robin, sorry to hijack this thread .....but  I've just bought a Lunar Ariva & was wondering (having looked at your profile pic) what make of porch awning do you have & is it easy & quick to put up ?

Right, kettle is a PowerPart PO218, to boil 2 1/2 big mugs (900ml) took 6 min & 6 seconds.

Didn't seem too long really. Seems a lot of water when I've poured it into measuring jug. (and yes I can believe I'm that sad to have just done this test!)

Thank you for being so sad in the name of research :-) I'm now curious as to how long a normal kettle takes to boil and will have to go make a cuppa now to find out!
