Well as far as I'm aware I have, the EHU is plugged into domestic mains and whilst battery is pretty much dead it is still connected. With mains connected the volt meter is on 13v, lights, fridge & water pump operate ok. The immersion heater light comes on (which I know does not necessarily mean it's working) but as there's no HW and no sound or heat from the heater after 45 mins then I guess it means something is not working as regards the IH.

Please let me know if there's something I've not done right as we're going on our first weekend away on Friday - it would be nice to have HW although not a necessity!

Almost ready to go away for the weekend now....

Anyone got any last minute advise on my water heater issue please?

Ideally I'd like to find out if I can test the element and if necessary how much they cost to replace. Not sure if they're user serviceable either.
Or have I missed anything more fundamental, I don't think it's anything to do with the 12v system as the Carver manual states mains electric so I think I'm ok there...

You have removed the cover and checked the wiring, so you have seen the two thermostats, the top one with the reset button, each one of these has two connections.
Between the two stats you have the two connections for the element.

FIRST REMOVE 240v POWER BY REMOVING HOOKUP CABLE FROM VAN

Now with your multimeter set to OHMS on the 200 range, first check the resistance between the pair of connection on each stat, the reading you want is the same as touching the multimeters probes together, ie, no resistance.
If you don't get a reading then that stat is 'off' and faulty

Now check the resistance between the element pins, for a 5A fused element you want circa 64ohms, for the 3A fused element you should get around 85ohms

No reading here and the element is U/S, replacement for these are like hens teeth, I've got new stats though

i also have a problem i have a 1989 fiat ducato swift kontiki and it has a carver cascade 2 water heater. i have recently had a gas check on the whole van and it was all ok but i dont want to take it back to the fella as he charged silly money £300 plus to put some other things in the van right. anyway i was camping and i had hadwater the wind got up to gale force so i decided to pack up and move on. next time i tryed my hot water the green light came on then the red light about 30 seconds later but it failed to light and i could not hear and clicking. so i tryed it again and the red light and green light came on straight away so i though oh well and left it then the following week i tryed it again and just the green light now comes on but no clicking no hot water and the tank is cold even after 1 hour. i have no gas leaks the van is level and the gas bottle is full and turned on and my cooker has a good flame. my hot water taps are running with no sign of air in the flow. any ideas what it could be please.17

The wind might be a clue if it was driving rain at the heater side of the van?

This can force water behind the flue cover and if water gets onto the wires from the gas valve, this can lead the water inside and onto the electronics!

Best way to check is to remove the 'gas burner module' but without removal, by opening the black box under the water tank inside, the use of a hair dryer can sometimes get it working?

Hi Arc there was no rain but penty of wind which i find a little strange. any other ideas. My owner manual says green indicator light on only and heater cold and will not operate means temprerarure control faulty. but this may as well be japanesse. does these mean that a thermostate is faulty? and if so is it part of the burner? and if so is it a part that i could fit or do i need to get the campervan gas fitter to do it. ie is it more or less a plug and play

Im still confused. Have cascade 2 on swift challenger 1998. Have problem with red light coming on on PMS2000 control panel showing heater fault. Have cold water running through hot tap. Switch with the red light is on under the seat by the heater. I thought should be running of electric in this case But when I went out and turned gas off, returned to find red light on. Switched gas on and red light went off.

So.... is this running of gas or electric?? I'm assuming gas as red light comes on when gas is off.... so how do i ensure its on electric only??
