Savanne, I'm so sorry to hear about this. What a pain. The dealers should sort it for you though. Have a good holiday in Corfu and try not to worry - it should be their worry, not yours.

thanks David.
I've printed out the link Michael gave. Dreading having to tell OH, hes due home any minute.
I would say there is no doubt that the retailer is resposible, according to Michael's link, but I wonder who decides on the option of the way forward: replace, repair, refund. It may be you, the dealer or by negotiation. Perhaps someone will advise.
any ideas why the window would be sticking out and the other side isnt? I can now see where the water would get in. We had a torrential downpour just before I went in the van this afternoon.

Our last caravan had a warpy window and leaked but the good news it didn't have damp, so perhaps it's just a window problem and the heavy rain you just had bought it to light , not excusing the bad mastic job but it may be ok x

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
I know how you feel as we had a damp issue with our van just after we bought it ( not this one the last one)
really takes the shine off your new toy but remember it is fixable and you will get some wonderful holidays in it hugs xx
yes I'm hoping its not damp. The window must be warped because its ok at the top but by the time you compare the bottom with the other window it is sticking out a good few mms. Have had all cushions out and checked van from head to foot for other probs after all this rain.
OH home and is spitting feathers We're going to arrange for an independent inspection whilst we're away and if this shows damp or any other serious problem will demand a full refund.

IMO Savanne I'd demand a full refund anyway and save the cost of an independent report because how can you trust that dealer?
Unless it happened since you picked it up - and the mastic would suggest otherwise - then the dealers have either not been honest with you or have not done a good enough check to spot it. Neither of those options puts the dealer in a good light.
So sorry to hear of this problem and all I can say is have a fab holiday and concentrate on how brilliant it will be x
Omg I'm so gutted for you - like you need this!! I'd take it to the dealers tomorrow afternoon and leave it with them and tell them to inspect it/sort it whilst you are away. fingers crossed for you it can be easily resolved one way or another - have a lovely time in Corfu (so jealous) xx
thats an idea Fiona, OH worried they refuse to look at it and insist we take it away. I dont know what to do, so fed up cant even be bothered to start Corfu packing. Off to empty van now instead

If there is a leak then there must be some degree of dampness. It's a question of whether the dampness has done any damage or can it be dried out. It could be that any moisture had dried out or not developed when the damp test was done, although I doubt it.
As regards the mover, if they repair the caravan then it's not an issue. If they offer a replacement then get them to remove the mover and fit it to the replacement. If you get a refund, get them to remove the mover for you and get written confirmation that they will fit it to another caravan at no cost within a reasonable period or else get them to refund the cost of the mover.
I've never really understood how a bit of damp renders a caravan "unfit for purpose" if everything is working and it is structurally safe to tow, it must be fit for purpose unless it has some obscure purpose other than providing mobile accommodation.
it looks worse than we first thought. OH found the internal window seal (black rubber bit round window) lifted easily and underneath wooden frame rotten, also with his head in the front locker looking up he could see the water damage a fair way up. Decided we are taking it down there tommorrow and if needs be will dump it across their forecourt. Depending on their response we will either ask for it to be repaired or demand a full refund.

Personally, I'd push for a refund. They may well prefer to refund you in the hope they can find some other poor unsuspecting individual to pass it off on. If they do refund, make sure to name the unscrupulous dealer in question or they may get to fleece another forum member.
