A car charger won't do your average normal "wet" leisure battery any harm whatsoever. It may damage gel batteries over time, but I doubt many people have gel batteries in their caravans.
Most of the advice so far is bang-on though.
Caravan chargers don't give out enough to fully charge a battery, not just for the reasons of gassing, but also to protect any sensitive 12v equipment on board.
For this reason your leisure battery will benefit from a proper charge with a smart charger (or a car battery charger) at least once every 2 months.
The only difference between the 2 chargers is than you can leave the smart charger connected indefinitely. Whereas a normal basic car charger needs to be disconnected once the battery is fully charged.
Have a look in Lidl & Aldi, they both recently had smart chargers for around the £13 mark. These are very good (I was dubious at first, but mine has proved to be well worth it's weight in gold, especially as the equivalent Durite would be over £50).
Also, take a look at these 2 sites.....
Laymens guide to batteries
Battery FAQs
Apparently the concrete floor thing is a bit of a myth, especially for small batteries (IE: Under 350amp/hr), so I wouldn't worry about that.
Best of luck though. I'm a recent smart charger convert, & I would highly recommend getting one, if only to make life easier.
------------- Matt.
