I don't look at it as having to use enough nights at sites from each club to recoup the cost of joining - I think the maganzines cover the subscription cost of each club. C&CC insurance and breakdown cover is cheaper which is the reason we keep our membership going and using the superior sites is the reason we are members of the CC.
But each to their own - our subscriptions are due at different times of the year so we don't have to fork out £80 at the same time. We have been members of the C&CC since our tent camping days and have only been members of the CC for 4 years since havng a cavavan.

It all depends on what you want from the club. We have been members of the caravan club for a few years and get excellent value from it as we enjoy rallying and have used a number of CLs in that time too. We have also joined the C+CC a couple of times off and on because we have wanted to use one of their sites or another and the members discounts have made it worth our while joining, but we have never renewed with the C+CC as we never felt we got the same use from them as we do the caravan club.
If you just want to use their sites then there are many commercial sites around that are better value than the club sites although not always in such convenient locations (we stayed in their Chertsey site once as my sister was getting married nearby so the location was perfect)
We do enjoy Caravan Club rallies and feel we get great value from the club membership after just a couple of rallies a year. We also have the breakdown insurance with Mayday which is good value and find the service to be excellent, particularly having previously used the RAC (who had a terrible service)
