Totally agree surfer, we also tow with a large 4x4 and twin axle, plenty of margin to spare and we have the BPW anti snake I drive system fitted, but I still cut the speed going on downhill stretches and cruise at no more than 60 on motorways where safe to do so.
I think a lot of the problem is not just speed, but badly matched outfits (some I have seen have been vastly overweight for the tow vehicle, some with hitches and wheels that look like they have been sitting in long grass for too long and obviously not seen a recent service. Just as a point of note, mentioning the I drive system, I know Alko have a similar system ATC I think. In my opinion these should be fitted to all caravans irrespective of their purchase value. Any system that makes our caravanning safer should be given to all.
