Hi all - I have noticed over the years that people are not using windbreaks as they were designed for any more but to mark out their teritory - I do think they can be so anti social when used in that way.
I mainly agree with you Chalkie. Poor use of windbreaks can give the impression that people want to keep themselves to themselves and therefore give an anti-social feel. We once stayed at Little Trevarrack in Cornwall and, to be honest we felt completely shut out from everyone in our area, because of the number of windbreaks and the way they were positioned - hardly anyone spoke, in spite of efforts on my behalf. I felt so uncomfortable that, to be honest, it put us off the site and I have no real desire to return. I know, what some may be thinking i.e. that on another occasion the people could be completely different. After saying that, I got the feel that many visited year on and that there were pockets of people who knew each other and we didn't feel included. Anyway, back to windbreaks! I think windbreaks strategically placed to discourage 'annoyance' is probably fair enough providing it is done sensistively. This will be our first season with a wind break. Our reason for the windbreak is to enable us to cook on the Cadac. We have bought the windbreak with a canopy so that we can use it if the weather is a little showery. We have no intention of using it to be anti-social, and anyone who knew me would know I would never wish to do this.
