We have been to that one too and had the same thing. The warden was not very nice as there was no ball game area as stated in the book. Mind you we have been since and I did have to complain about the ball game area they had built. It is right by the pond at the furthest point on the site not visible from many pitches and is simply a  chain link prison compound!!! We been to sandringham and they are usually quite lenient on the C& CC club site although the CC site is a bit more strict, you cant run on there lol

what really irritates me is when you see kids playing ball games in front of their parents caravan / car / tent and the parents tell them to play somewhere else , in other words "go damage somebody elses property, not ours" !!!
and the snotty looks you got off said parents when you go outside to "have a word with little johnny and co " ???

I cannot rest when kids or adults or both play ball games. I was bought up to respect other peoples property and so was my children. In return I expect people to have the same standards. But alas you get good people and you get scum. Unfortunately I have had the latter recently. I went to a site at Ross on wye a couple of years ago and there was a page on things you cannot do. Yet you knew this when you booked and if you didn't like it you didn't book. That was a crackin site.

At the end of the day some people just don't care or respect anyone else, "it's my holiday and I'll do as I please" attitude, I think the thing is to have a polite word, if it continues speak to a warden, easier said than done though as it can make it worse if people are that way inclined. It's about time manners and respect were taught again. We can live in hope I guess.

Would agree and these very sort's are also the same who would no doubt resist paying for any damage there offspring caused .
Personally I think anyone signing into a caravan park should be made to sign an agreement saying they will ABIDE by site rules at all times and if they are found breaking the rules eject them

I have found recently that these things are now the norm. Its the same as cutting through other peoples pitches (adults and children) if you say anything you get a funny look or just ignored. I now tend to shout out to see if they want coffee, tea etc., no answer. It does not matter what rules the sites have these people will take no notice and continue to please themselves. I enjoy caravaning but its getting more like a chore these days, and alot of the nice people who feel like me are giving up, whats left more of the others.

I do worry that many sites do not have a very clear policy on ball games, or for that matter other things.  The CC and C&CC are clearer than most, but even then the enforcement is variable.  A clear policy about ball games means it would be easy to avoid those sites that either allow or do not allow ball games one way or another.  Calling a site 'adult only' is, at least in theory, skirting the issue - adults can still play football or not!  It is all about making the right choice based upon the information.

I accept there are those who wish to play ball.  I accept there are those who do not wish to pitch where ball games are allowed.  As a consumer, ought we to be made clearly aware of the policies of individual sites - and not just about ball games?  Unfortunately not all sites have a clear list.  We all look at site location, facilities, landscaping, cleanliness etc when booking a site.  I am as guilty, as many are, of not checking what sites will or will not find acceptable (when you can get a clear answer), or of going to sites where no clear policy exists - and after that, feeling uncomfortable if it is not to our/my liking.  Sadly, the policy of 'common sense' is inappropriate for some, and the 'make it up as you go along' attitude of camp site warden/owners is not often helpful.

Perhaps we need a campaign of 'clarity and transparency' among sites, so that we clearly know what we're getting before we get there.  The responsibility is also on us as consumers to ask the right questions and to respond by booking or not booking if the site policy does not fit our requirements.

But then there is the other side of the arguement.  The problem with all this is that camping is partly about freedom.  Lots of rules and regulations can take the shine off things somewhat.  Too many rules and regulations will put people off but then too few rules and regulations will also put people off.  Running a campsite is a business, so some owners judge that the best line of action is to be non specific, to maximize chances of a full park.

Basically, I feel all these things are part of the problem.  Of course, I don't have the answer.

We had the same last July, a couple of teenage kids kicking a full size leather football into the air right behind our van. They too couldn't understand when we asked them to go and play in the empty field on the site which was a 10 second walk away.

Why would you kick a ball like that in such a fashion so close to loads of vans when there is a clear area nearby?

I don't understand people nowadays.

As said earlier we prefer Caravan club site's as members usually seem to adhere to rules more .
Of course you get the critics who moan about the club and its rules and how regimented they supposedly are but the very same will have fell foul of the regulations because of there lax attitude and respect for others

Why wouldn't the parents check this out before they book though? What is the point of going to a campsite where it's not allowed, or there is no area set aside for ball games if you have children who want to play ball? Surely it would be better to book on a site that has a playground/field anyway. Or near a beach perhaps.

Hi Crazyplace, totaly agree with you about the behavior of unruly kids, and the lack of parental suppervision in respecting others around them, I would have been a Victor Meldrew, and then send some kids over to their van and car, with a cricket ball and bat, let them play there,Give them a taste of what their kids are doing, Bet they would be out within 5min moving them on, think you were to soft on them, think i would do as has been suggested, inform the parants if van is damaged by their kids, you will be expecting full compensation from them, for any damage done by their kids, and will be reported to police as criminal damage(just for good measure). At one site i was on had kids throw stones(local kids) reported it to warden, and police, and mentioned the matter to the tourist information, they were aware of this behaviour, they also had a word with the police about it, it turned out that they were aware of the kids that were doing it.So know exactly how you feel, any damage accidental or deliberate can be very costly to repairnot to mention the annoyance factor, If you find yourself in that position again nip it in the bud.

I consider myself to be a thoughtful and sensitive (and friendly) caravanner.  A couple of years back, we were staying at the CC site at Hillhead and I was walking through the site, using a 'defined' pathway down some steps to the next lower tiered 'road' of pitches.  As I walked from the bottom-most step and onto the road, the occupier of the adjacent pitch called out a remark similar to yours.  I was mortified.  I didn't reply - not through ignorance, but felt very affronted.  I couldn't see why it was wrong to follow a proper path which just happened to run past (not through) the pitch he was using.  I still don't know to this day what I did wrong - perhaps because the road was a cul-de-sac he thought I had no business to be walking by his otherwise exclusive location.

I would always respect another person's pitch - but there comes a point when people can be unecessarily aggressive and territorial and practically lay in wait for poor unsuspecting 'victims' to humiliate.

I think thats whats so good about the reviews on here, often give a good indication as to what to expect.

'There was a lovely area in the middle of the vans for the kids to play'...... shouts BALL GAMES if this is what you want then fine, if you don't then avoid.

Again I say when you book a site.............. ask them if they have a no ball game rule and if they stick to it.

We did!  Book said ball games allowed, got there and they weren't!!  Don't count swingball to be in the same league as say football where the ball can go anywhere.  The sites in question were run by "the friendly club" that's not particularly family friendly.

Who would ever take a proper football camping ? its just ignorance and bad manners!
Our children have only ever had foam or inflatable balls allowed on a campsite ,my rule is ,If i don't want it hitting our unit then it isn't allowed.

I have noticed that ignorance on campsites seems to be increasing at an alarming rate ,and the abuse you get for asking someone to desist in poor behavior
