So was it was just me who thought straight away it was obvious you were well aware it was a scam from what you posted originally ....  ???

The final telling point was the 3 emoticons at the end of your post !

Makes me sad that someone is damaging the already difficult situation Merchant Seamen find themselves in.
As a Merchant Navy Ships Welfare Visitor I see at first hand the problems seamen of all nationalities face
Simple things like Taxing or Sorning a car can be a nightmare if you are at sea for months especially if mail is not accessed for weeks on end.
Personal Internet access is still not readily available at sea and if the ship has it, the crew the are generally restricted in it's use. For example, seamen visitng my home port, come to the seafarers centre to use our internet just communicate home.
Unless you can get more details Ignore it.

alternatively scam the scammer ,nip down to your local model/hobby shop, buy a model of your TT, an' flog him that, would be worth it just to see the look on the ' collection agent's ' face

I know we should avoid answering these scam emails, but a while back I was in a period of getting tons of them offering £millions stashed away in bank accounts in just about every third world country you could think of. One day I finally lost it when I found tons of them in my spam folder and I replied to one. I'm afraid there were a lot of words beginning with 'F' in my reply. There were several curses bestowed upon the person who read it too. Amazingly they stopped. I didn't get a spam email for months.

I'd not advise doing the same because it only confirms your address and I probably wouldn't do it again myself, but it was weird.

I did the same by answering one without the language may I say. In formed them they were criminals, it was illegal and I had informed the police and they can track if they want to (I had informed the police and they said a lot from Nigeria at this time are doing it).well I had & heard no more.

When we were selling a trailer tent last year, I had a phone call from a woman, she seemed really genuine, said they lived in Spain, so could not look at the trailer, but would post me half the money by cheque, then arrange a courier to collect the trailer and take it back to them, and give me the other half of the money.

I was pretty worried, as it seemed weird that without looking at the trailer she would buy it, also it would cost quite a bit to get it picked up and shipped over there? A cheque did arrive for half the money, but in the end I backed out, another buyer came and offered more than she did, so I sold it to them. Then emailed her to cancel, she was not happy, I sent the cheque back to her.

Anyway I never knew for sure if it was a scam or not, but better to be safe than sorry!

I sold my car on autotrader earlier this year and we also had emails like the OPs. They were very persistent and when one didnt work we got others from someone with the same surname. We just ignored them all although I was very tempted to tell them what I thought of them and ask just how stupid they thought we must be.

When we were looking for a caravan I noticed loads of ads on the caravan club website that were so obviously scams (vans with stupidly low asking prices etc).

Yesterday, we discovered we'd had our Tesco credit card fraudently used for the second time this year. Makes you wonder just what sort of horrible world we live in.
