The thread has become a bit clouded by the expansion of reasons for not leaving at the prescribed rule of 'by 12 noon' (a rule laid down by the club; not wardens). OK, in the event of illness, vehicle breakdown, etc., I would expect wardens and members alike to co-operate in a friendly and helpful manner to resolve a problem.
In the matter of a member booking an extra night to leave at 7:00 pm., the member could have a good reason for doing so, and it isn't in the remit of a warden to criticise. The member has not violated club rules.
The comment that the couple may have needed longer to pack is not a good excuse. we all know how long it takes us to pitch or pack up, so they should commence packing up eary enough. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the 12 noon rule is paramount; it is up to campers to abide by it.
And wardens are in breech of their terms of employment if they give preferential treatment to individual members.

Hi,totaly agree,Bertie
Have used the Maragowan site on a good number of occasions, and have see this notice posted, vacate pitch by 1pm or 2pm,(good idea),this is all very well, as long as you remember the official time is 1200, and you my be asked to vacate pitch earlier than posted time on gate, due to unexpected arrivals,if any camper is afforded this privilige they should not get upset if asked to vacate earlier than the extended time,as this would be unfair on the new arrivals, who wish as much time on site as the next caravaner, Have had experience of waiting1hour for a pitch to be vacated, this was at Shell Bay(private site) a good number of years ago(I arrived at 1pm),the caravaners on that pitch had not been told there was a van going to use that pitch, felt sorry for the young couple and their 4young children, being put in that position by the site owners, turned out that the couple were regulars and they usally stayed on site till 4pm with owners consent, with a bit of fore sight they could have been all packed up and hooked up ready to go,incase their pitch was required. So a very good reason for the 1200 departure time.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.

Recently, in France, we made good time and turned up early at Chateau du Gandspette, where we had pre-booked for 3 nights. Reception did not comment on us being early and we were directed to pitch 43. Getting to the pitch, we found a Belgian with his van hitched up, and talking with another camper. He just looked at us and carried on with his chat. Being early we decided to wait, and were just about to position our outfit to be out of the way, when another camper came over and told us this Belgian had been on another pitch (not the one we were waiting for), but had just pulled onto our booked pitch.
As I looked at him again he jabbed his watch with his finger, so I just told him he shouldn't be on this pitch, and he'd better go. With much mumbling, he went. I should point out; had he been "officially" on the pitch allocated to us, I would then have expected to wait.

Unbelievable
To be fair, I think that any downsides that might be found on C.C. sites can equally apply to any camping site; club or private. If it is a bolshy warden, then you can report him/her to head office; always providing it isn't you who has caused an upset. In the case of an unreasonable member, the warden has the option to refer that person to head office, and members can be banned if the incident is serious enough.
What I find difficult to understand are those members who outwardly show an attitude of not wishing to be friendly. If that's how they feel, why not camp in their own back gardens? I hate to say it, but it does appear to be a British thing.
Recently, at a French campsite, there were the occasional Brit, French and german, and lots of Dutch. Everyone seemed to get along fine; even coping with struggling with the language barrier. But one British couple (probably mid to late 60's) spoke to nobody. They just sat outside their motorhome and stared at other campers as they passed; sometimes hiding behind a newspaper to discuss other people. I wonder what they will tell friends (if they have any) about how they enjoyed France?
Arriving back in the UK (Black Horse Farm) whilst most peolpe were sociable, there were the odd few who would 'walk the site' apparently sizing up the 'enemy', but immediately looking away if you showed signs of speaking.
Yes, Rune Caster, I think I can understand your reasoning

thanks for the replys,i`m glad it`s not just me having a victor meldrew moment.
i havn`t got a problem with leaving at 12noon, as stated in the terms and conditions of booking
but i think the "you can stay on but don`t tell anyone" thing is wrong.it`s like the old school tie routine, and dont get me started on reserved pitch`s
