Hi alisonmc, sorry to hear about your troubles, hope all gose well from now on, must be gutted about the holiday as well, hope your hubby has quick recovery, your area may have a mobility scheme you pay a £1 (lasts a year) and can use their mobility scooters around the town, save you pushing a wheel chair, and give you a bit of a brake, hope that has been of help.
John it is called Shop mobilty down here and it could be around £2 - £3 so join per place and then you have it for a year. It is per town or city wherever there is a shop. Then you pay hire per day or even only half of one, probably have to phone them in advance for a scooter as they go fairly quickly but reserved it is saved for you. So if you find your going to one place for a couple of weeks it is worth it. Then you can tell him to get a wellie on and get the shoppping in as he will be going around faster than you will
I hired in Harlow when I see my big sis, she phones up early morning for me. But they only hire either morning OR afternoon sessions as too many want or need them. The w.chairs are easy to hire & for much longer all day if needs be.But then while I waited for my permanent wheelie I went to the red cross as I had to wait 6 weeks for the first one. So I was expected to remain totally inside 4 square walls for that length of time. So the red cross one was very handy.

It sounds like things are getting so much better for you.
I thought they might be a bit much we thought the same and a bit far out of the way.
When my mum broke her ankle she had to stay in hospital for a week after the op and then we hired mobility stuff from the red cross locally, the hospital organised some of it which we brought back with us.
We also had a bed downstairs for her until she got more mobile.
Have you considered a hotel type break to give you a rest too?
