I'm so sorry, but I'm so so glad you and your family were ok albeit shocked, but unharmed.
We always wind our jockey to see if it lifts the car up slightly , something someone on here told me to do when we started out, but sometimes accidents just happen , no one knows why.
So glad you will be getting back on the horse so to speak, good luck in your new search
Donna :)

Aww, so sorry for you guys. Still like the other posters have said, it's replaceable and you are all safe and sound. Good luck with the insurance claim and I hope you find another just as lovely as that one.
PS: I don't know whether you will be able to have the caravan back, but you could sell all the items off inside, fridge, cushions etc and that would provide a bit extra funding for the new one. A caravan breakers should offer you a good price as well, although it won't be as much as if you sold the individual items yourself.
Oh, No, I am glad its not put you off caravanning, and your family are safe,
that happened to us with our first trailer tent but luckily didn't hit anything.
My 3 year old just saw those pictures and said "you have to tell the owner of that carrrravan to wind the jockey wheel up a little bit when its on the back of the car, that will stop it hitting a wall", bless him, he has been taught well!

Update- The insurance company have been great which i know is rare, they have dealt with my claim very quickly, the final settlement is £500 more than what we paid for the caravan!!
We have now had time to get over the ordeal an have decided to start hunt for a replacement caravan so we can start the adventure all over again!!

Only just spotted this thread, Rob and I'm so sorry to hear of it all. After saying that, it sounds as if the insurance company has been really fair - m ight be useful for folk to know which insurance company you dealt with. (We had excellent service from the Caravan Club insurance when our van was stolen over two years back.) Exciting times ahead looking for a new van.
glad to hear the outcome with insurance co.they have certainly come up trumps, now go out and look for another van with the specs that you need, take your time and at least you have got most of your stuff to swop over to the new one.
here's to many years of holidays with you and yours.
The Insurance company is AM Trust Europe they are a nottingham based company, I got the policy with the AA online.
I agree they have been very fair and really helpful, the salvage comapny are coming next week to collect which will be quite sad!! but as said before we were all ok and thats the main thing. Hopefully we might be able to pick up a bargain now its the end of the season.
