I do all the towing too! Mr B tried it once to prove he could do it if I broke my leg!

I also do ALL the prep, tyre pressures, wheel clamp, hitching up. loading etc.

I see LOADS of lady towers - go girls! It's not difficult - you just have to go on a short course if you are worried and you'll come away full of confidence.

I used to do all the towing when OH was at work, now hes retired, he does all the motorway towing work, and just leaves the twiggly bits and back lanes to me lol

We have been doing a bit of caravan watching over the last couple of weeks at Sandringham, and would say theres been about equil amounts of Lady towers to male ones, Likewise we have seen a few ladies driving some quite large Motorhomes, including a Winnebago the size of a 53 seat coach!

I tow all the time. Infact I do it all alot of the time as I quite often take the kids away on my own. Hubby can't always get away from work.

My husband would never let me tow - he couldn't read a map so probably just as well he drove. I towed for three years after he died and only gave up because I changed to a campervan a few months ago.

I have a couple of friends who have been towers in the past but I must admit I've never noticed another lady towers on the road.

When we had a caravan i towed it :) Now we have a tt and i still share the driving. My ethos has always been if i won't do it then i don't expect dh to do it :)

I towed my folding van, basically because i'm a single mum, If I didn't do it, we wouldn't go anywhere....i'm now looking for a new unit, either a TT or FC, maybe a caravan but somehow I feel they are harder to tow than a folder...my van was 17ft long in all but only 4.5ft high when towing...my SIL also towed her folding van so us ladies are giving it a go lol. It would be nice to have someone to share the driving with, as towing with 3 grumpy kids isn't fun, along with navigating!

Hi Helen by later Licence i take you mean he passed his test after 1997 , this does not mean he can not tow a caravan here are the rules for people who hold a licence from 1st Jan 1997 .

f you gained your licence on or after 1 January 1997, then you will be restricted to driving or towing with a car (or light commercial vehicle) with a maximum weight of 3500kg. Note this is not the actual weight as loaded, but the vehicle’s maximum allowable weight, or gross vehicle weight, as set by the manufacturers – you will find this in your car’s handbook.
You can tow a trailer or caravan with this licence, but its maximum weight must not exceed 750kg – giving a total possible maximum outfit weight of 4250kg. If you wish to pull a caravan weighing more than 750kg (in practice, this covers all conventional caravans), you must follow the restriction that the maximum allowed weight of the car-plus-caravan combination weighs no more than 3500kg, and that the caravan’s maximum weight does not exceed 100 percent of the car’s unladen weight .

I'm a later licence which is why we're looking at older lighter vans which I can tow. My husband doesn't drive as he has vision problems so i've just towed our trailer back. I'm now ever more tempted to get a caravan!

Phew! Mrs P, must have passed you somewhere on the M5 yesterday. We started from Teignmouth at 11am.

I recall a trip to Spain many years ago with my elderly father & 2 kids aboard. We arrived 10pm to collect the hire car at the airport. Hubby, who'd never driven abroad said "nah, you drove a Lhd car a few times at home. You drive. ". A couple of days later the woman in the next apartment was horrified when I told her I'd actually driven the car at all. She only drove her car in her town at home!

I think there are plenty out there simply
in need of a confidence boost. Come on guys, encourage them! You never know when you could get stranded with only one driver.

Our van is on the large side, so I haven't tried towing it more than a few yards!

Back in the late 70's I did tow our Cavalier 16 foot van to Sweden, all on my own. Looking back on it now, I still can't quite believe I actually did that, I must have been braver then!

I think OH prefers to drive than be driven. Now we are retired and have only one car, I practically have to wrestle it off him to go shopping!
