I just got mine removed as I didn't have the tool to remove them. Different vehicles have different length studs, so I am sure there will be a set out there that will fit a caravan. At a pinch, you could get studs that are too long and cut them down with an angle grinder.

Whether there is any point to them is another matter. I got mine off as quickly as the standard wheel nuts once I hammered a 14mm socket over the end of the stud. I would have thought a wheel clamp would be of far more benefit.

I know someone who had their alloy wheels stolen from their caravan while they were in a service area. They came back to find their caravan resting on its axles.

Frankly in this day and age, I don't think you can have too much security. I've got the old fashioned sort which have and elongated hexagonal top to them which is hollowed out, a locking barrel then slides into the bolt and a stainless steel cap slides over the bolt which locks the whole thing into place when the key is removed.

It fits snugly in the bolt hole and if you try to cut through the cap, it just revolves making it nye on impossible to remove.

I've had them for years and they're still serving me well.

Brilliant!!!!!!!

Vic

Locking wheel nuts are very easy to remove even without the adaptor key, so mutch so that i think they are a waste of money. once you have seen then removed without the key adaptor i thinl you would decide to spend your money on something else.
if you doubt this have a look on you tube

Again some may be easy to remove woithout a tool but not all - autoexpress got an expert to try in tests on various types The best type were very secure and a simple socket would get you nowhere. See test.

It makes more sense to research a little than to make sweeping statements. Don't believe everything you see on youtube.

i think we need to accept all locked security devices are removable with time, its a case of slowing them down to get caught in the act.ours has two wheel clamps, hitch lock, ground anchors x 3 with chains round the steadies and alarm.takes me about 15 minutes to go round and unlock to go but i dont mind.

Brian this was NOT a sweeping statment and research does include the internet, thats why we are on it now.
a simple socket was not mentioned in my post and it is a fact that ANY wheel locking bolt can be removed very easy
have a look at the Dynomec Remover
Michael is right any security device can be removed but lets make it hard for them

In the dynomec video it shows a locking wheel nut being removed easily but aren't all promotional videos so perfect.  Don't believe every video you see on youtube.

On another forum someone contacted dynomec and they were given a list of firms local to them who had their tool.  When contacted these firms gave estimated times of between 1 hour and 8 hours.  The poster phoned dynomec and they said if they brought the car in they would remove the bolt however long it took and quoted them a price.  It took them only 10 minutes, but obviously other types could take longer or dynomec would have said ten minutes.

The point is that even they didn't quote a time without seeing the bolt so obviously not all can be removed as easily as the video.  You can bet that this piece of kit is dear and alloy wheel thieves will go for unprotected wheels in the first instance.  Caravan thieves will have to overcome the wheel clamp covering the bolts to steal the van, so a combination of both slows the process down.

As everyone says nearly all security devices can be overcome, but make it hard for them.  You might think it a waste of money but  the local toe-rag stealing wheels won't have the pricey dynomec and good wheel locking bolts will make it hard even if they did have specialist tools.

The one that can't be overcome is the jsb hublock, but involves removal of wheels so I can't use it on my sloping drive.

I was gonna write "who has to worry about having their wheels nicked from their van?" but this quote says we all should. Sickening that people will nick these off your holiday home from home, may bad things happen to these types!
