Could you not have a chat with the seller & keeping your best interests at heart, get him to phone the finance company with interest in your intended purchase while you're with him, ask them to speak to you, you could tell them you wish to buy the caravan but you understand there's finance outstanding on it. Ask them if you could pay them the finance & pay him the balance once tey've confirmed the van is clear to be sold.
W hen it comes to parting with your hard earned cash to a stranger my advice would be to avoid taking chances by cutting corners. How would you know if he was actually calling the Black Horse and not just some mate who may be assisting a scam? No, do it face to face with the Black Horse folk in their office. You part with your money and get the undertaking + CRiS + Van all at the same time. If the van is not within a handy distance to collect after the deal is done then you tell the Black Horse not to cash your cheque until you have confirmed that you have the van. Give the seller his money when you have the van. This way, you and the seller remain together until the whole deal has been done. You also have the CRiS document before he gets his money.
These kind of deals can be tricky so you need to keep yourself protected at all times.
