We have a small lightweight porch awning that we got for exactly the same reason as you but it was no good in strong winds, saying that we never used a tie down kit with it, its got bendy poles like tent poles and 2 inner poles that go across to strengthen it, i suppose you could hand coats on it, however we never, use it as have bought a quest elite which is fab but cost £400 opposed to £100 for the other one. you can have it for £50 if you want it, J x

Thanks for that but I think Im probably going to nudge the budget up a little bit and go for something with steel poles. I don't want to spend too much as we already have a Magnum so this is just for weekenders and the occasional overnighter. I think Im probably going to have to take a trip to Glossop and have a look at what is available.
I've also noticed that the Outdoor revolution Porchlite? is on offer at a few places
My experience is that you can either have the quick to put up bendy type that tends to flap a bit. Or a more traditional steel poled porch awning that has a thicker fabric, takes a little onger to erect but is much more sturdy.
For 2-3 day breaks we use an apache magnum, got a good quality one 2nd hand for £125 I think it was.
I've put in a cheeky offer of £130 for a brand new Kampa Rally 200 as we just need a really small awning and will hope that we can hang one or two coats off the internal poles but not heard back yet - they probably laughed and hit delete!!
We have a pyramid porch awning - its a bit heavier than the nylon ones but very substantialm and suitable for winter use. The frame is very solid and good for hanging things on

I have the body of a greek god - its in my freezer
we have the kampa 260 and use the hangy thing inside we just watch how we distrubute the weight on the pole and has been fine every time we have used it in the last year thats 2 adults and 3-4 childrens coats on it
