We are both disabled to the degree that we are both dependant upon sticks and I've made a few changes to the van. First , of course a motor mover, guide tubes to the rear steadies so slide in the cordless drill and engage it without bending (Front ones are ok as are visible at the side) ,  double tread step , Fiamma folding hand rail at the door, leave the hadle attached to the Aquaroll and fill it on the roll thro the side cap, likewise when putting in pump, leave on the roll  with the handle attached and insert pump thro side cap.. When emptying waste, hook Wastemaster on tow hook of car and take toilet cassete on top sec ured with bungees, can also tow the aquaroll around with car . Just a couple of things that we've found to make life easier................Mick

Useful thread Jeff. Thanks for starting it. My main problem is knees and back (awaiting knee replacement), so bending and kneeling is a bit of a pain. Carol shares the pegging with me. One of the most difficult things for me is fixing the convoluted hose into the grey waste outlets from the van. I'm seriously considering getting a large funnel or similar, to fit into the wastemaster to catch the water from both outlets without the need for the hoses.

I always take a small pair of stepladders to help when we put up the awning, and we have replaced our single plastic step with a double aluminium - this makes it far easier to access the van.

Like a lot of people I am in  a wheelchair 90% of the time and 2 elbow crutches to get around  our sheltered bungalow & up & down the steps to the fc. I use the cupboards either side of the door to help me inside once I get onto the first step, not the door as it will hurt them as you too much would use the half door and then find it twisting on its hinges,

I help Bob open it all up from the chair. I go round with the outside putting the pegs onto the places he will need them. In reverse I have the long handled steel peg puller whne we bought the Delta pegs. Well worth it as I can pull all the pegs out and clean them off as well.

But we could not  take a scooter with us as my wheelchair comes first and take sup the room. Having an fc we do not have spare room left.Use the full scooter cover for the wheelchair outside if we get caught out as it is so big it covers his chairs & al whole lot else. But that is now when we have had to take the skirts down and it is raining. I am the pole holder. I can get the wather only because we do not use the water inside stuff but use the sites facilities. So the 5 litre bottles from Asda etc with the handles suits us.I can use me feet to scoot backwards, but not  long as it causes leg cramps.I sit to do all the prep. work for cooking, Brekkers is my job, & tea, coffee etc.Bob does the dinner, after my prep. So we work well together.

As long as the disabled one is trying that is all they can do, The thing I detest is a disabled one making mountains out of molehills saying they cannot possibly do this that  etc,Yet it is only because they just do not try to.Camping no matter what unit you have does not have to stop just through disability. Working together you can work round it as many have & do.

I have one handle of the water bottle over one side on the back of the w.chair, then another the other side. Rubbish bags come with me, including recyling. Just as well I do not have to travel far as the weight it is at times carrying, I can hear it crying out or is that the tyres gradually letting the air or gel out with  a sighBooked 10 weeks next year already, cannot wait till its here,

I would be interested in the rear corned steady guides too. Don't worry about the comments. We used to have a toilet bottom tank wiuthout wheels which I couldn't manage to carry too far - always used to take it in the car. Our prest toilet container is smaller and has wheels so it's fine.

Don't worry about what people say.  You can do whatever you can do, and if you want to use the car when most people would walk, just do that.

It wouldn't worry me for a moment.  People should be grateful thay can walk to the tap, not critical of those who can't.

I think that when you have been "fit" at one time then, suddenly like myself find you are disabled in one way or another then you tend to be a wee bit embarrassed of how people look at you.People dont know whats round the corner for them so I wouldnt worry what other people think.

They guide tubes Mickey b wouldnt be plastic tubes in line with the nut on the steddie ?

Guide tubes, just 2 pieces of plastic drain pipe fitted over the hex end of the winder and secured at the underside rear of the van with a couple of  horseshoe shaped brackets made out of a piece of scrap aluminium. They protrude about 2 inches beyond the rear of the van, looks like twin exhaust pipes but works well 'cos you just slide in the socket of the cordless drill without bending over trying to find the hex. Was published in the  'Tips' in Practical Caravan about 20 years ago.

As for  using the car to drag around the Wastemaster, please note, a 50mil tow ball wont go in the handle. I just use a small loop of rope which is permanently tied on the handle.

Whats more, I don't give a wotsit what people think of me, just looking for an easy life.

well said Jim.

As there are others that will never be able to remember the time when they could do more. As they never have been able to do more. Yet there they are still doing what they can including the younger ones in the ParaOlympics. Fantastic achievements,in whatever level you can do it in life.I always say to those with legs that can be still used, use them before you lose them. Then you can look back on what you have achieved.

Are you going to get on the floor for the two front ones so you can put the 2 bits of pipe there without drilling as Bob said no he is not going to drill anything,. When they put the Rhyno mover on the fc it broke his drill bit so Bob not willing to let it break his. Metal chassis to hard in steel for ordinary drill. He cannot get down there vey easily to put them on anyway. and you know I cannot form my wheelieso up to you now to offer

Hi Jeff, the OH used this when she was able to use the van, comes apart to transport in car, no plugs or cables to mess about with, range 16miles round trip, since my heart opp. Could not handle the one you have, this one is ideal and stayed in the porch awning. Some good ideas here, that I may be able to use in the future, I think the van will be getting a set of twin exhausts.

Ive seen that one John and was impressed, that big one of mine does the same.I did a bit of research on scooters and there are good and bad ones also, not all people will feel comfortable on certain scooters as for their size or disability.I would say to people before they buy a scooter what do you want it to do ? will it be easy to lift into the car, will it sink into stone chips etc.

Dont buy something that a sales man is trying to sell you afterall hes not the one who will be using it.
