I've gone off with my jockey wheel down, not with my caravan but with my horse trailer, when I had one. Luckily wasn't carrying the horses. Noticed it when I went over road bumps. Bent the jocky wheel though . Got a lorry horse box now.

Try to move car away from unhitched van with break away cable still attached - check.
Drive a mile down road, van hitched up but without breakaway cable on - check.
Lose grey plug out of socket whilst travelling and wreck it - check (twice on different vans).
Drive a couple of miles with van handbrake on - check.
Yep, done those.
Also bought a new van, foolishly let the seller hitch it up and didn't check it, drove off his drive onto the road and thump, can't have been on properly, new breakaway cable then needed.
And that's why I prefer a campervan or motorhome.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Have forgotton about the ball and tried to hitch it up several times Oh and and as others have said I have nearly pulled away after unhitching and forgotton about the breakaway cable!
Have done the jockey wheel down! I had'nt tightened the clamp enough and it vibrated down! Also had the handbrake on a click-saw smoke from van wheels!
Stopped- brake off let it cool no probs!

I bet I'm the only person who hitched up a caravan without taking the dust cover off the towball! LOL Of course it didn't fit and wouldn't lock on... it was the first time I'd ever done it myself and I just couldn't understand why the hitch wouldn't go onto the towball properly! Then I remembered.....
Unhitched van then drove off to park, snap goes the break cable oh bugger. Also with my previous van and the Alko hitch I did have problems problems hitching and unhitching. BPW is a much better hitch.

That's a corker!!! Good on ya
With the Winterhoff hitch it would be impossible to do this by virtue of the fact that you have to lift the lever in order to fit it over the towball and engage it. Lifting the lever automatically releases the plastic ball.
My previous caravan had the Alko version and I always was very wary as to whether it had engaged or not.
They're not necessarily supposed to stay on then? Just apply the handbrake & let go???
Makes sense I suppose. Either way, with or without it, you'd definitely hear & feel something was wrong. But without it you'd be left with an un-braked caravan, ready to roll away (or even towards).

I've often looked at mine & thought; "will that actually do anything if the worst does happen?"
It's meant to snap after it has applied the caravan brake.
