i have one of those 20 to 30 amp heavy weight pumps.. it will blow a large 4 z 4 tyre up from flat in around two minutes.. a bit over kill for just topping up pressures..
they all work even the very cheap ones.. the cheap ones just take a long time to move air.. none are lacking in the psi department..
the factory fitted 12 volt sockets in my van are only rated at 2 amps.. larger pumps need clipping to the battery terminals..
Another vote here for the Ring compressors. Saved me more than a few times when I had a dodgy valve on my Focus. I don't know a huge amount about caravan tyres but can't see why there'd be a huge difference.
EDIT: oops just realised this thread is over 3 years old!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I got a RX-i digital air compressor £35 including a tough carry case. You dial in the required pressure and it automatically cuts off when it reaches that pressure. It has one of those curly hoses that you can stretch a long way. I and several others have found it really useful.

I also have a Ring unit and its been reliable. Be aware that it requires a 10 amp fuse. Any 12v sockets in the van are probably 5 amp, as are 12v extension cables.
For convenience, I fitted a 12v accessory socket to lockers on each side of the van with their own 10 amp fuses. This keeps the cable length reasonable, as the distance could be quite long to the car in storage for example.
I've had a couple of Ring units, both have blown the 12v socket in the 'van but work fine from the car. I'm also a keen cyclist and have a great quality track pump but never thought to use it on the caravan tyres which would make life much easier (especially when in storage and can't get the car close enough either side). Gonna give it a blast...Every day's a school day!!!

Our caravan is in storage, so I bought a 12v extension cable, which enables me to inflate the van tyres.

As I mentioned above, these 12v extensions usually come with a 5 amp fuse, which will certainly blow if used with something like a Ring inflator. However, really good quality cables will handle a 10 amp fuse - just be sure to check the cable cross section area.
I have a Ring RAC900 heavy Duty tyre inflator/compressor. It has a 7M curly hose so will reach all round the car, and caravan wheels when van is hooked up. The Schrader connector has a built in pressure gauge but reads high, so I use a separate gauge for checking. Everything stores in a good purpose made bag. At about 23 amps load it is beyond cigarette lighter capacity, but does have crocodile clips which attach firmly to the battery. It is quiet running and does not offend neighbours if used late in the evening or early morning. Definitely the best tyre inflator I have ever had.
Bertie.
I also have a RING RAC900 and have found it excellent.
Beware there are numerous "look a-likes" which may or may not be as good. Also the price for the genuine thing varies significantly, this is quite a competative offer but still more than I paid a few years back:
