Well, I personally wouldn't tow a twin axle with anything less than a 4X4. & I wouldn't go taking advice from janus either (sorry).
Also, the OP was suggesting they are basing their figures on the MIRO, not the MTPLM.
These numbers need to be right before you go chosing an outfit. The MIRO should never even come into the equation.
I agree. Without knowing the MTPLM & vehicle kerbwweight I would be very careful abour saying this is a good or bad match. While the ratio isn't a legal issue it is a safety issue and you don't want to have the tail wagging the dog. It may be that the MTPLM is more than we are all assuming, or that the vehicles weight is less, but if we can confirm these figures that it would be easier for people to give the OP a more accurate answer. As I say above by my rough calc's this could be a 97%+ match, which while legal MAY not be stable. Sadly the only real way to confirm car kerbweight is to take it to a weighbridge as I know from experience....our X-Trail came in much more than given on several tow sites but I know others who have had the opposite experience
I tow a bailey Ranger 550/6 with a Galaxy 52 plate (2003) 115bhp. It tows VERY well and is very stable. I have had the vehicle re-chipped to 150bhp which also increased the torque and improved fuel economy.
In my opinion the Galaxy is a very capable tow car and I rarely struggle with all but the steepest of hills.
It is well worth having the engine chipped though, I now get almost 50 mpg solo checked with both the fuel computer and working it out myself.
I believe the kerb weight of a Galaxy is 1800kg and a towing nose weight of 90kg.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Finding any information about that caravan is difficult, but the only eldis van that I can find with that length and that sort of kerbweight is a 2004 Avante which has a MIRO of 1415kg and a MTPLM of 1650kg. AS above the galaxy kerbweight is 1800kg giving a towing match of 91% which is perfectly acceptble and within the limits set for safe towing by ALL the proffpessional bodies.
Since this towing match is the theoretical figure when the car and the caravan are both loaded then the actul towing match is inevitaly a figure which is less than this, so we get back to my original statement that this galaxy towing a caravan with a 90% towing match is a good combination for someone with experience to tow. Any responsible driver using this combination will find that it is fit for purpose. In addition from experience of towing such a combination I can confirm that what the figures say is correct.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
