If they are packing them in like sardines I wouldn't be surprised if they in breach of their planning agreement to store x number of caravans.

I wouldn't touch it.

Off the point, but £10 per week may be expensive where you live, but up to £500 a year for secure, but non cassoa storage, is quite normal around here- andthats for a small caravan, some sites charge extra per metre over 5 metres.

I dunno about that. I've been researching caravan storage, in East Sussex, for my brother & his wife, who are looking for a caravan, & the most expensive I've seen so far is £400. These aren't CASSOA though, but are pretty secure, most on "lived-in" premises.

I only pay £5/week for mine (unusual, I know) & my neighbour has local covered storage for his at just £6/week.

I'm not bothered by these CASSOA sites, as mine is just a cheapy. I personally think they pack them in too tight on these compounds & I know I can get to my van, & move it, work on it, tidy it, whatever, whenever I like.
This is also why I don't bother with insurance, as most insurers won't cover me when it's stored, so pretty pointless really.

I suppose it's a bit different for those who have expensive vans & plan their holidays well in advance. But cheap storage is available in the south east, very much so, in fact.

I thought it was expensive but there again I suppose it depends on the area. I keep my caravan in a CaSSOA 'Gold' site for £350 per annum so if you look at it from my point of view I would indeed consider £520 as being expensive. I know someone in Derbyshire that keeps their caravan on a 'Gold' site for £100 a year less so probably the further north you go the cheaper it becomes. I suppose we'll soon find out if someone in the north of England can comment.

Hi bowler70,  I have come across a lot of storage sites in my travels up and down the country, seen the vans stored, but never seen any vans stored with hitch on ground, this is the first I have heard of anyone doing so, must make that piece of real estate the most profitable in the country, I would suspect that if van dropped to ground, the impact could result in the side panels loosening from the floor through time. I would complain and move van. I would certainly do as tango55 suggests ASP.

Looks like the prices do vary a lot around the country. Around Berkshire you won't find anything for less than £30 a month with most sites charging between £45-£55 a month ........and many of these aren't even cassoa! We pay £30 a month for outdoor storage but all the other sites within 20 miles are far more expensive! Will look forward to the day when we move house and can keep it at home!

Hi All, things much better up north I'm currently storing the van at Stainforth near Doncaster & paying £170 per year, not CASSOA registered but nice & secure, only problem is it's around 15 miles from home, so I'v located another storage only 5 miles away for £170, so yes much cheaper up here.

Regards

Graham

We did use a storage site about a mile from house £400 a year. We came back from France to find that he had moved all the Vans sideways a foot. This meant that we struggled to get the Van in and out, we couldn't open the door. We asked him why the change, he said I can get 2 extra Caravans in. When we went home we rang a CASSOA site near us and luckily managed to get in.
We can reverse it in using the car or much easier using the mover.
The security is great and we keep our Jockey wheel on.

We paid £250in east sussex, unfortunately we now live in west sussex, our old storage site is 30 miles away, sites in west sussex seem to be approx double the east sussex price,

I cant think of any physical reason why the vans shouldn't be parked like this, though at this price, you would expect to be able to visit and look after your van.

Than being said, the fact the people cant means your not going to get bits nicked off and out of it which is good.

My concern would be fire if the vans are so tightly packed in. If one catches fire, this would very rapidly spread to the others, and the fire within a short period of time might get to the stage where the fire brigade would have to just stand back and let the thing burn out.

I cant imagine what that kind of insurance claim would look like for the storage owner. I wonder if he is allowed to store like this under the terms of his insurance??

If he is in breach of his insurance, what are your chance of getting some money back if this were to happen??

Would be worth checking this out, question, does personal caravan insurance need to be specific for storage??

Weird
It doesn't make sense to me, but I'll take your word for it.
I would love to live in West Sussex, but maybe not keep my 'van there

..............................

Michael as I mentioned earlier our caravan is put out from Indoor Storage into a Secure Outdoor Compound. We then collect & return the van from this outdoor locked compound.

bh I had not thought about the battery [or fridge] not being level - good point.

We will be moving elsewhere asap.

We have 3 storage sites locally and all are Cassoa gold sites. All charge £140 for 6 months. Ours asks for a 2 hr lead time before access within set hrs and our friend has key access within core times. One asked for annual payment up front. Ours isn't perfect with the by appointment type of access but for now it will do. Herringbone drive though arrangement but without the luxury of having a driveway storage is our only option. They are happy to park it up for you if you aren't confident in the spaces but I don't think I would like the idea of them moving it about like that.
Good luck in your search for a new place

i think this is crazy. We pay £300 for a gold storage facility. Access is with a combination lock and you can access the facility anytime between 8am and 10pm and have full acces to the van - similar to if it were parked in your drive. It's ours to take away and back as we please
