Oh I'll keep looking for sure. They are superb vans
It's a shame to see one so badly treated. On the surface it looked fine but it didn't take much looking to see the damage. It was fixable but I'd never have been happy with it.
Out of interest, what was the damage or bodged repairs?
I ask because I'm a dodgy DIYer and I've done some minor repairs to my Geist (strengthened under-bed slats, repaired side-dinette table) - just interested what is bad enough to give up on a sale....

This dodgy DIYer has twisted the entire cupboard assembly on the left side by installing a stereo. All the structure is damaged and it's cracking at the fixed points. It looks like the cupboard has been forced back in the wrong position.
There's signs of a heavy handed owner all over it from the shredded front blind to the cracked shower.
Oh, that bad! What a shame. If the basic structure seemed affected, I fully understand your conccerns and I reckon most of us would have done the same in walking off. I too would not have the time or expertise to repair up to 100%.
You've got the same model I think. It's the entire cupboard assembly from the 'chimney' across to the door. The cupboard to store the table won't shut properly it's so twisted and all of the blanking plugs have popped out and won't stay back in. There's something rather worrying about it all.
Sounds like a no no! Don't give up - have you looked on caravan club website classified section? There are two 485s on there one in Avon and one in Cambridge,
Umm, how did you hear about the recall? When was/is it? I ask as I have no knowledge of this. Can't find it on the 'net and, of course, the muppets at the past importers won' tell me anything. All info.gratefully received.
I've been looking at the pictures of all of the LV485's for sale at the moment and I can see signs of warping in all of the interior shots where there are any.
Good advice. My info gleaned from hours of surfing is that the only affected 'vans were the early production run 03-05 which had a BPW chassis cut back yoo much after the wheelarch. Easy check is to grab the 'fidge - if it moves - go away, check for dust (wood dust) on the top of the work surface at the bottom of the "chimney panel" and finally (!) check that the door on the table cupboard closes squarely. The number which were so affected/afflicted is small. The above checks should ensure safety. Then, get a decent torch, crawl under the 'van on your back, just in front of the wheel - even a fat waster like me can do this - and look across the 'van to the opposite side just behind the axle. There is a large nut, painted red. Any fractures appear around this area. I hope this helps!
I have now had a long informative call with BPW, who were very frank, open and very informative regarding this particular issue. The Chassis for the LV485 was - like all models - specified by Geist. The steel thickness was specified to keep the chassis weight low. This is confirmed by many other posters on other forum across the world. Some, but not all of the LV485 had fractures, BPW supplied replacements of a thicker guage steel in order to maintain their reputation - NOT Gesit's!
So, if there is a problem it can be sorted, hopefully before furniture and internal damage has occurred. There was never a recall for the LV485 model.
There we are, an end to this saga - at least it will be when I get my new rails fitted. I had seen some internal movement, but corrected by myself - blaming "she who must be obeyed" for over loading the 'fridge (oops! bit of grovelling needed here)
Here's hoping for another few years of 'vanning in a 'van which has been just what we needed over the past seven years. We do not want to change it!
