We use real crockery in van, have set of plates and bowls I got from co-op years ago. Proper mugs as well. Dont like plastic.

Dont like plastic - use bone china mugs from Wilkinsons - made a holder for these, plus pyrex plates, about £1 each in Range stores, no breakages in transit.

We're pretty light weight in most things we take with us, but draw the line at plates and cups. Pottery for both these. Wine glasses as plastic because they really do break for a pass time.

Hate drinking coffee/tea out of plastic cups.

Also suspect that some of the plastics used arn't too good for you, A lot of the PVC's out there leach a good quantity of toxins at about 60 degrees, and I don't trust manufacturers enough with this stuff to ignore it.

Some plastics get away with leach amounts in food stuffs because they release only a small amount but more and more food processes involve plastics these days so try to stay away from it.

However, that being said, I'm told that the harder plastics are pretty safe.

I have melamine plates and dishes but proper mugs (Vistaprint with my own photos on them). I didn't mind drinking out of the melamine mugs but didn't like the way they stained badly. Plastic wine glasses but two glass whisky tumblers.

When I had the caravan, the plate racks were in the cupboards across the back and I had to wedge chunks of foam in front of the plates otherwise they bounced around and fell out when I opened the door. The glass lid of the cooker was directly underneath so it could have been expensive.

Melamine plates and dishes ceramic mugs and glass for beer and wine.Have 1 ceramic large plate for the oven it travels in the oven as well.I don't like drinking out of plastic,but if we have visitors i tell them to bring their own mug /glass.

We have melamine plates and bowls, plastic tumblers and wine glasses which we have had since we had our first tent, but normal ceramic mugs for tea and coffee. We've never considered real crockery even in our van.

Ive just been looking for new mugs (melamine) although i hate how they stain. But reading comments here i'll be out buying some lovely cupcake mugs to match my accessories :)

Well I have melamine everything! My set is at least 20 years old and I think the melamine is thicker than the more modern ones. I love using it because then I get that holiday feeling, same as when I use my whistling kettle! Just down to personal preference isnt it.

If I did have 'proper' crockery, I'd be investing in some bubble wrap.

We don't like melamine either. we bought a set to start us off, and straight away bought a couple of unbreakable glass mugs. Have since replaced the rest of it with unbreakable glass. Its heavier, but so much nicer to eat off.

I have to say Im not generally a great fan of melamine but we bought a good quality camping set of plates and bowls and they are really very good. The beauty of melamine is that its light so I can keep it in the racks of the overhead locker and they can stay there whilst we travel - couldn't risk that with real china. We have proper mugs and good quality acrylic wine glasses
