We used to rally when we had our last caravan and the children were small, and enjoyed some wonderful locations and events thanks to a wonderful social secretary at the time called Fudge Bell. Sadly, he passed away, and since that time the local rallies have never been much more than a group of friends who regularly gather together in a field somewhere for the weekend to enjoy eachothers company and plan their trips in convoy off to more distant lands.
We have only tried one rally since we bought our present caravan, but to be honest it was all very 'us & them' regards where you were allowed to pitch, with the regulars being given the better pitches on hardstanding, and the entire set up looked as though there was a bit of caravan snobbery going on with the caravans lined up dealer fashion in ascending order of price, the best ones being next to the chairman's caravan!
One of the best CC rally centres we ever attended was one of the Yorkshire ones, a real big welcome and everyone treated like an old friend, just a pity they were a fair distance away from us to be just attending the weekend meets, but we had a lovely weeks rally with them up at Cayton Bay one year with a 'Hi-Di-Hi' theme complete with entertainment and kids fun competitions to enter.

Call me a blue plug caravanner! Been there, done that and watched my battery drain, lights go out, etc etc, yes you can take extra battery, buy a gennie, solar panel the list goes on! Much prefer CLs with elec and they are cheaper, there are also a lot of falling out between members and committee members, too many rules, for me caravanning is about chilling out, not feeling you have to join in with competitions meetings etc etc! It's not to everyone's taste and I don't want to offend anyone, just turn up and don't become part of the furniture because that's when trouble starts!
