They have just voted to use strike if needs be. Yes it may come to that but before they actually strike they have to give at least seven days notice of the strike date. We are going away Friday and coming back Monday so I am OK for this weekened as no notice of strike has yet been given.

My best guess is that they may very well call  a strike for the Easter weekend, and if that is limited to the weekend there may not be much impact on our plans. We are at home then anyway.

We go away for a week in April after the easter Hols and will need to watch events and the "notice" of actual strike. Have reconciled myself to the fact that I may have to cancel and I would suggest that you all check the cancellation periods you need to give without losing your deposit, or having to pay the full cost even if you don't go.

If sites insist on payment and you cannot give the required notice to cancel you may just have to lump it and cough up. It's not the fault of the site. It's just the same as for any other reasons for non appearance...its our problem if something crops up and we can't get there.

Anyway, after easter the next optimum time for a strike would be closer to the Olympics. Will the Government let that be interfered with? I would certainly think not, so if there is a strike it may not be as bad as we may at present be imagining.

MInd I still have my fingers crossed.

Phil

no trips with the van planned now , 12 x 25 mile round trips to work then 80 miles to the airport for the holidays.got just short of a full tank with a range of 720 miles so as long as i just use car for essential trips we should be ok until end of april.

We're hiring a narrowboat over the easter hols, about an hour's drive away so I've just filled up to make sure we can get there and back. I've been past the garage a couple of times this morning and each pump had 2 or 3 cars waiting, apparently it's been like that all morning because people are topping up in case there's a strike. Hopefully the hire boat company have stocked up with red diesel, I don't know if their supplies will be affected in any way.

I remember the last strike. We were at the C.C. Conniston site and had just filled up my 4 x 4 with diesel at the local petrol station when the news broke. We didn't use it again all the time we were there - just hiked about. The petrol station ran out of diesel the next day.

We then drove home in a oner keeping the speed to about 50 mph and arrived still with a quarter tank !

i think fill up well in advance because as soon as news breaks of a strike then the profiteering at the pumps will start and the price will rocket.remember last time , some garages stuck 30p a litre on,simply because they could.

sounds like your panic buying

not really,i filled up sunday before panic buying was mentioned or a strike even announced.
£30 of diesel added to tank to last me 4 weeks is hardly panic buying ?
omg cant believe im having to justify myself for filling my car up with fuel so i can get to work ??

we are sticking with our trip from Gloucester to Scarbrough next week. We can get there on a tank of fuel, we'll worry about how to get home if they strike.

I think a lot of people have missed the point about this potential strike, so I shall put this in capitals..............IT IS ONLY FOR 24 HOURS!!

I think the press have done a wonderful job of making half the population panic!!

You seem to be in the know and confident in your statement.
Could you please enlighten us as to the source of your information as there has been no announcement as to when or for how long the strikes will be

Probably 24 hours on a Monday, and then 24 hours on the following Tuesday and then for 24 hours on Wednesday etc.

I do wonder if all this panic buying will actually cause some garages to run out? Don't they buy according to normal trends, resulting in this sudden rush for continual top up leaving them short.

We should maybe start a rumour about there being a sudden shortage of British Made products and that if you want any you had better get down to the shops asap. Every little helps

Phil

Why are they bothering to train up troops to keep supplies going if it's only for 24 hours?

Don't they always??

Coming home from work at 8.15 last night I passed my local Asda - the petrol station is next to the main road and there were four queues so long that cars were blocking people from turning in off the road. The staff had even kept one of the pay booths open - normally closed at 7pm - to cope with the demand. It was almost as bad when I went past again earlier this morning, and there's yet another 1p per litre gone on the price overnight.

Mrs A

I doubt if any service drivers would be able to use the 'fuel company's' vehicles,(insurance ect) and if forces tankers had to be used I'm not sure if they would be compatible with service station fuel tanks (connections, etc) as civvy tankers are gravity operated whilst ours have pumps.
I have a suspicion that the fuel delivered ( if at all ) would be to 'approved' garages who will only be serving 'essential' customers only. The other problem would be a lack of correctly qualified soldiers, we cant drive tankers without the correct ADR licence, even if we do hold a C+E driver licence.

regards baz

I hadn't realised they were having day strikes. Thought it was an all out. I noticed last night that some of the pumps were empty near me. Going to sit down and look at bus routes for when we are away at easter so can leave the car parked up.

When they fill the petrol stations do they focus on keeping big ones running e.g.. supermarket chains and leave the little ones till last?
