Obviously depends on the site/wardens. One CC we have visited a couple of times has the largest hard standings that I have seen on any of their sites. Also has very reasonable grass strips between pitches. They were very strict about pitching - diagram, the works to be sure you understood! No way was anyone going to pitch across any of those pitches!!

Plenty of other CC sites have been of the 'it's your pitch, do as you wish so long as you stay within your boundary'.

I am off to Crystal Palace in Oct with the family, but OH is staying at home with the dog. He is so much better at reversing than me - I was worried I was going to spend the week getting the van in exactly the right place!

Last season we actually cancelled our pitch at Chatsworth after doing a reccy from home one Sunday afternoon. The Layout of the site was very untidy indeed, with caravans pitched in any old fashion including the side-on method where they were staring right into the front side window of the next caravan. Added to this was the fact that ball games were being played along the roads around the site, dogs were being walked off lead around the units, kids were tazzing at speed on bikes,  and we soon decided that this was not what we were looking for in a site, and we much prefared to spend our time and cash on the more peacefull Sandringham estate.

Ironically, I now see that the head warden who was incharge of Sandringham last season, has now taken up post at Chatsworth, lets hope he can work his magic there too, and return Chatsworth to the once peaceful and popular site it once was. theres plenty of space there for dog walking and bike riding around the parkland trails, and in my book a tidy site is a happy one.

Have just returned from a rather rainy week at Black Knowl CC Site in the New Forest.

The rule there was you could park anyway you like on the hardstandings as long as Caravan, Car and Awning were on the pitch.

The grass pitches were offside to the pitch post.

At West Ayton, one of the wardens rides his bike down to your pitch with you, and ensures you park correctly, he then does regular site patrols around lunch time everyday checking off his pitches for departures and any problems he may spot.

Well kept site though, I much prefare this kind of pitching to the way Chatsworth was last season, but Knowing Steve S. the warden previously at Sandringham, he keeps a tidy site, and I have no reason to believe that his working practices wont be transfered and used to bring Chatsworth back upto standard once more for this season whilst hes in charge of its day to day running.
