at Dave + Kath, do you drive down the motorway at 70MPH, just because you can?? Or like most people do you stick to the 60MPH limit because it's the rules of the road.
Keeping your dog on a lead is one of the rules of nearly all campsites, so why disobey it?? Ego??
The same should apply here, if a campsite has rule stating that dogs should be on a lead at all times then your dog should be on a lead.
Your dog may be well trained but even the best of dogs can still be unpredictable, I have a dog my self, she is friendly, yes a little yappy until she gets a fuss and wouldn't harm a fly, but she is still kept on a lead.

We have a 2 year old black Labrador which we've always taken in the caravan. I was very keen to take him training as soon as he was old enough and it's paid dividends, he'll lie outside the caravan without being tethered and will not bother anybody. Does the dog get enough exercise? I always make sure mine has at least 2 long walks. I take it if he's chewing outside then he's outside on his own, might be worth giving him alternatives to chew on, we give ours hide chews which also are good for his teeth
Bet you are glad you said that hey? lighten up folks!

You think because I've got a dog with red eyes called Satan that i drive at 70mph when towing, blimey you are full of assumptions aren't you. You then make another assumption that because my dog is like he is it must be my ego. Let me get one thing straight, I'm not a law breaker neither do i walk around with a 'look at me' attitude, if my dog attacked another dog or bit somebody i would gladly take responsibility and have him destroyed. One of the arguments was that 'what if someone poked him in the eye?', well I only hope that the parent of the kid that poked him in the eye would also honour their side of the bargain!

Blimey the OP only asked about dogs chewing guy ropes , bet they wish they didn't now!
------------- "I'm a fool for my dogs"
Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
from looking around at the amount of rescue dogs there are id say there are more dogs attacked by humans than dogs attacking humans so maybe it should be the other way round we should tie ourselves up and let the dogs roam free
I have a greyhound that is very obedient well trained barks about once a month sleeps with 2 cats doesn't bite guy ropes, extremely chilled and walks about a foot from my left leg. We got to the CC site at Bristol got his plastic bed out of the boot + his big cushion and told him to get in his bed. We set the van up + awning about 1 hour later with him still in his bed watching us. The the warden came over to us and told us he has had a complaint about our dog not being on a lead. He said that he could see that the dog is well behaved and obedient but the member has complained and he had to act cause that's the rules. I got the dog spike out and was fully compliant. Sorry Dave & Kath I know how you feel But Dems the Rules comply with it. Because of bad dog owners, in the near future we will all be dusting off the muzzles or get a fine this will be a bad day for dog owners. As for the biting of the guy rope take the dog outside and give him a good kicking that was week 2 of the dog training class.

I share your sentiment chalkie although i wish they could extend the rules to children as well, at least if they were tethered they'd only annoy their parents instead of everybody else. Must admit we've never had an issue with wardens and I've also seen other dogs that aren't tethered to a spike but if somebody wants to assert their authority on site I'd gladly conform, we all have to live by rules after all and some enjoy making sure we all do
We never have our 3 dogs, 2X Belgian Shepherds and a Border Collie. On their leads either !
But then we have crate trained our dogs, they go into the crates as it is their own space, away from harm, from people tripping over them, or spilling things on them, getting told to move. and they usually just lay there watching the goings on, with a chewy bar or go to sleep.
My dogs are well trained, friendly and happy to be with family and friends age ranges from 6days[ born last week] to 87. But they will never be left unsupervised with anyone but our immediate family members.
I have both dogs and children and expect both to behave and act within the rules of a campsite. So dogs are on leads at all times and the kids don't play near other caravans do not walk over other pitches. They have walkie talkies to keep them under control if needed without disturbing others. It's the bad owners of dogs and bad parents that give dogs and children bad names. But I'm still in the belief that a dog is a potential killing machine and in a place like a campsite should be on a lead at all times other than in a unit however well trained the dog is. It's not about ego its about common sense.

The bitter apple stuff works, OP!!!! and recommended.
Re: the other issue, another take. My Sis (and probably a lot more ppl) is absolutely terrified of dogs and will only go to campsites that have a leads-on policy. Even dogs that barely give her a glance give her the collywobbles, especially if untethered. It's an irrational fear and one we are working on, but just thought I'd put in another side to the for/against argument.
The rules that exist on campsites are there for a reason and those that deliberately flaunt or break these rules should not be surprised if those that obey them get uptight by reporting them to the warden.
If you don't like the rules that campsites impose, then perhaps now is the time to find another hobby.
I am on a CC site at the moment and every other van has a tethered dog outside them.
If I am walking our dogs, I always ask the owners permission before we aproach the other dogs and if no one is in sight, we steer clear.
In the last two days my two have been in contact with atleast a dozen other friendly dogs and it has been really nice to see them together and to chat with the owners. Pets on campsites are a great conversation starter and most owners are genuinely interesting and responsible people.

Was that remark really necessary? He's already said he is happy to live by the rules! Why are people so aggresive on here sometimes.
Oh dear, what DID I start.I only wondered if others had ideas about our pup biting the guy ropes. Thanks for suggstions. We have used Vic rubbed on things at home, which Buddy hates, but it would be a bit messy to use on awning.Bitter apple seems to appeal to my dog! So am going for the metal rods. The reason we have a van is so that we can give Buddy plenty of long walks, so exercise isnt the issue. Its just that he is a very avid chewer.Surrounded by chews, toys and after a long walk, he still found time to bite through his lead and guy ropes. So rods it is! thanks guys, woop woop, the great british dog debate. surprised poop scooping didnt come up!
