For any of you that have smart phones, such as iPhone or Android, there is a great app called UK Aerial Alignment which is great for showing you which way to point your directional aerials, it also tells you is they need to be horizontal or vertical.

Don't forget, you may need to retune you tv every time you move to a new site otherwise signals will break up. On your tv you will have a signal meter, it has two parts, signal and quality, you need to get both as high as possible.
