There is a large refurbished Shell garage just after the VOSA weighbridge at Todhills just north of J44 at Carlisle, and just before Gretna.

I spend most of my working week driving along the A75 between Carlisle and Stranraer. The filling station quoted above is the last one on the roadside of the A75 until you reach Castle Kennedy about 3 miles from Stranraer. There are two Tesco filling stations just off the A75 at Dumfries (A709 on way into Dumfries and A76 also on way into Dumfries) Hope this helps

Many many thanks, it all helps! Will note these down and can then get over my fear of filling stations - wish me luck!!

most garages seem to have pretty good access.
It's probably easier to make a 'black list' of the difficult ones.
