Well done, I would like to think that most of us would offer help in this situation. On the other hand OH and I are well aware of how our awnings go up, but still manage to fall out!

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that nearly every couple on campsites that are erecting an awning appear to be in the latter stages of a failing marriage ?, we've only been at this game for about seven years but it seems to be the one consistent thing on every site we visit, i find it quite comical to watch someone else having a good old stressed out ding dong after my wife and i have put ours up and we've both calmed down and made up again.

I'm sure the marriage was strong and secure before they start to errect the awning.

The first time we put up our old awning it took us over three hours.  Fortunetely with practise and perseverence we have got it down to about 2 hr 59mins

We're the same Tony C, we've been putting up an awning for years and still manage to fall out every time.  We just irritate each other and both try to take charge. We refer to it as "Awning Rage"

Hi putting the awning up (full) is the best bit, I like to do it my self with the wife and kids just hold the upright poles where needed. It has to accurately aligned etc, otherwise spend all holiday adjusting it until i get it right hours before coming home. Its the same with the porch and small awnings also.

Otherwise the Awning is a Divorce in a Bag. lol.

We used to have a trailer tent. That was like putting up 3 awnings!!!! Our 6 year old used to stand between us telling us to stop bickering. No awning has ever made us feel that useless again. Even when we first put it up. I'm sure we've provided plenty of entertainment in the past.

Maybe I have a different SOH as I don't find it comical?

Seems like I've had a sense of humour transplant too as I don't find it funny either. It's a pity some people have nothing better to amuse their tiny minds than laugh at other people struggling - I think it's rather childish tbh. Surely it would be better to offer to help - after all, one day it could be you struggling with something and you wouldn't like to be laughed at.

I'm completely on my own so any awning, tent or whatever has to be put up alone - fortunately I know what I'm doing and just get on with it, I don't give a stuff if people are watching me or not but if I ever noticed anyone openly laughing at me for any reason I'd say something so scathing they'd be looking for the nearest stone to crawl under!

This too, it worries me sometimes when I read these threads, that when you turn up on site is everyone is watching and waiting for you to mess up, and laughing at our expense,we've been vanning for a long time and still do silly things occasionally, no body is perfect. If I see someone struggling with anything I'll always ask if they need any help, if they say no that's fine, if they say yes then we both help out, and tbh when I get on site I'm there to have a nice time, not there to watch and laugh at people.
Forgive me if I sound horrible, maybe it this migraine ive got today, but I just don't see anything funny in laughing at people who are struggling or bickering.

Why does putting up the awning have to be stressful?

Oh - TrigGLX - a man after my own heart!!!  When we were touring, my husband realised very early on that the best way to avoid arguments about the awning (porch or full) was to just let me get on with it and only do the bits I struggled with. In particular, his job when pegging out was passing me the pegs - NO-ONE could peg an awning to my liking!  I have been known to spend an entire 2-week holiday faffing with a corner that isn't straight - probably some form of OCD!!!

I realised I possibly needed help when, arriving at a site late one Friday evening, our friends (a small group we always went away with) put the awning up (ours was the biggest, and so the best for communal eating - it was therefore needed before anyone could have tea, as we were all eating together!).  We got the rest of the sorting out done and we were set up in about 20 minutes flat .... but I had to quietly re-peg the awning the next morning as I just couldn't relax with the state it was in - corner seams not aligned with poles, sides not straight - and that was just for a weekend!!!

Do we really take the p**s out of others in difficulty I don't think so I certainly wouldn't although it can be very amusing seeing a couple arguing when putting up an awning my brother in particular they have been caravanning for 40 + years yet still get very irate with each other when putting the awning up my partner usually gives in she will go and calm the situation We will watch other arrivals at times and comment on their system of setting up its not a case of not having anything better to do people watching is human nature im sure everyone does it from time to time it doesn't bother me in the slightest if others find my antics amusing and I can certainly say been there done that

I have quite often offered help, especially when people have no idea, but I must admit I wait for a while before I make my offer. My youngest son used to love watching people               trying to pitch when he was little. He would sit himself down to get the best view. If it was when we were eating, he was made up calling it 'dinner and a show'.I would never let anyone struggle for too long though, you never know when you might need a hand yourselves one day?

Think the op was trying to say they had just got over the stress of doing theirs and lightheartedly stated that they were just glad to be done and see that its not just them who have high blood pressure putting it up
Hope to set up near you guys sometime cos no one has ever offered me and oh any help even though we struggle
