my worst fear is driving down a tight country lane and meeting another caravanner coming in the opposite direction, i imagine us both sitting there waiting for the other to start the dreaded reversing down a tight country lane manouvre, so far its not happened but one day............

OMG, in March I went to a nice place near Abergavenny and took a wrong turn so ended up going through small country lanes, my other half wondered why I was a bit short with him when he was speaking. I was thinking EXACTLY that !!!
ha ha, its the kind of thing that wakes you up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, our parents taught us everything we know but nobody taught us how to reverse caravans in tight country lanes.
still battling on with the old girl 9 years later. Had several damp problems with her but if she thinks she is going to win, think again, I have sikaflex........
Damp scares the poop out of me, not sure what i'd do if I came across it .......
Can't afford to upgrade, baught my current van to try to save some money on holidays and TBH, when i've looked around at newer models (I'm a nosey sod), they actually don't stack up well to what I already have so I really do hope it lasts a long time :-)
I agree, damp can be quite worrying but if you get the van serviced every year then any signs will flag up when the guy does the damp meter test, from what i gather on here the main areas seem to be the awning rail and the rubber window seals that start to leak.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
We started in caravanning in 2010 - after camping for a few before that. Bought our 2009 model, did our research bought perfect van - she probably has two years left in her for us yet until layout may not be so perfect as children get bigger. She has just sailed through her 3rd year service with flying colours ready for France in August.
We have had 4 vans since 1985 the first was a Thomson very basic no electric but a good van,the second was a Swift 1983,the third was a Bessacar 1993 and without dout the best van we have ever had,and the forth van which we still have is a Bailey Ranger 2004 which is the worst van we have ever had we have quite a lot of problems with this van and this is the only one we have had damp in.
