I agree with Jeff Juke found Fenwicks to be over rated, car products work better and much cheaper. always finish with a waxing though I find any black marks come off easy after the van has been waxed.

If you use Inside and Out, from OLPro neat it will remove stubborn black streaks.

Dettol all purpose surface spray is also fantastic for cleaning every thing inside.I used it on the interior roof and it came up like new.It did the full inside of the van at the start of the season including the shower and all the internal walls, would recomend it.

Just cleaned my filthy van - used fenwicks for first fix then this amazing cream cleaner for boats and caravans called "silky" which my dad had in his general cleaning stuff cupboard - a great finish would recommend.  Cheers everyone for your help.  Julie

Hi karbea, I have used Fenwicks and warm water to clean the van, it works well, after good clean, I use Grease lightning showroom shine (cleaner and wax in one), have found this very good for roof, sides, rear and windows( terrific shine), polished six months ago, shine sill there, I have faded front panel and use silky to clean black streaks and give it a shine, then apply AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection, that works better on the front faded panel than showroom shine, and any wax on van can be removed with white spirits, just be careful near all rail seals, as it will dissolve the seals, I also wash round the window rubber seals with washing up liquid and warm water, that helps reduce the  black streaks,( surprising how much dirt they hold).

only used fenwicks twice after using, the black streaks became worse, washed it off with wasing up liquid ( very good for removing wax etc) to take it off and cleaned it with car polish, black streaks took a couple of weeks to return rather than days with fenwicks.
Fenwicks is a very good cleaner but i found that it affected the rubber window surrounds.

I use Aldi Caravan Cleaner which comes up for sale now and again. It is only £3.99 a large bottle. Diluted it brings up the caravan looking like new. I go round using neat liquid to remove black streaks effortlessly. We always buy a couple of bottles at a time.

I found there are other very good cleaners/polishers besides fenwicks out there. Because Fenwicks seems to be the one found in most caravan shops it does not mean it is the best.Like the vicar says Aldi caravan cleaner is excellent too and a lot cheaper..

Corni - I'm an 'amateur'/enthusiastic car detailer and wouldn't use Mer. Nothing 'wrong' with it, but there's better products out there that are easier to use.

Auto Glym Super Resin Polish is the best all-round polish. Great for cars in that it polishes, fills minor swirls, and adds a good layer of protection. In that respect, also good for caravans.

To add a bit more protection, add a sealant (Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection) which is expensive, or add a wax with a high carnauba content. 'Harly Wax' is probably the best value one - it's a plain car wax which smells of nothing but wax. no perfumes or fancy stuff. On ebay you can get a tub sometimes for £15 which will last you for years.

With the Auto Glym and Harly Wax I'd guess your caravan would be protected from the elements (and the rain would still be 'beading' off it) for months and months.

I used Mer a lot when it was doing the rounds in markets and shows. IIRC it left a lot of powdery residue - I've heard it's better now.

Anyway, there's my 2p worth.

More info (much more!) on the Detailing World forum which is excellent. www.detailingworld.co.uk

BTW, I've just used some Greased Lighting Showroom Shine to try on our caravan. Not bad at all - it's surprised me! I may even try it on the car...!
