As I said earlier.....I wrote to the club suggesting that if they have spaces...especially during quieter times....that they charge a 'half fee' to get there earlier or to stay late thus more revenue for the club and more flexibility for it's members, but heard nothing.
Of course there are the exceptions i.e Chatsworth, Morton etc where the time reason is because of access.

Believe me this warden WAS a jobsworth you should have seen her........... I was very polite and appologetic but she nearly had me in tears she was saying that I was trying to black mail her and being really horrid when all I wanted to do was pay for the previous night
I didn't know you couldn't do this.............although I have been told by another warden since that she could have done it. That was a couple of years ago.

Now if we find we have made good time ...as I said when we went to Dorset this year.......I ring or loiter.

The Caravan club should be strict on arrival time and not let people that turn up an hour or so early onto the site, it is unfair and annoying to see people that think the rules don't apply to them setting up when you have arrived as you should do after 12.00!

The lack of consistency on applying the 12 arrival rule is becoming even more regular these days it would seem.  We too always time our arrival to be noon or afterwards, and regularly find the wardens have been letting people on long before this which is both unfair and frustrating.

We recently returned from Trewethett Farm in Cornwall, and they were arriving from much earlier in many cases and they weren't people who had been on the LN arrivals area.  The wardens didn't seem to be concerned.

The Club needs to decide whether the rule exists or not and make it easy for the wardens to enforce, as I appreciate it is very difficult for them sometimes to turn people away.  However in the interests of fairness there should be a penalty for arriving earlier, or they should just do away with it completely or even move to a 10am departure/arrivals rule or something earlier.  Personally I think noon is fair and they need to enforce it or invoke some form of financial penalty (extra night or something) for those that choose to arrive early and the wardens should be given flexiblity to let them on if there's space.

For many sites including the one we were on, pre noon arrivals are a problem due to site access issues (narrow approach etc).  We met an early arrival on our 10.30 departure, and I wasn't best pleased that I was the one that had to do the reversing to accommodate him!!

Well three out of three CC sites we have visited during the last month have all had strict 'no arrivals before 12noon' rulings, the last site we visited directed early arrivals onto a large visitor centre carpark about a mile down the road, which had no connection at all with the CC club.

Im still quite suprised how quiet all the sites we have visited are, still plenty of vacant pitches and more like mid May than the height of the season, the only things that are high are the prices and the temps, a humid 32*C in our awning a few nights ago, its a good job we packed a couple of large fans.

Even the town centres that are normally packed with few carparking spaces available are relatively easy to access, looks like more people have simply stayed at home this year rather than take a holiday.

How do they enforce it, if outfits are turned away at the gate, assuming there is room for them to turn around then that only adds to any congestion problem, if the site has limited arrivals parking then other than let them in what choice do the wardens have??.

It is purely down to the selfish attidude of some members, if they know they will be let in they will turn up before 12.00pm, they arent interested in rules, and its usually the ones who have turned up before 12.00 on arrival who dont want to leave by 12.00 on departure.

If all members actually stuck to the rules that they signed up to when joining the  club, then this wouldn't be a problem.

But as in most walks of life these days, there are always those that think rules don't apply to them!

The C&CC used to impose an early arrival fee, £5 if my memory serves correctly, even if it was 11.58am.

I can see that wardens are in a tough position if a caravan turns up early - if they're turned away (which ideally they should be) there's often nowhere else for a caravan to go. So I think it would be fair to charge an early arrival fee - it might make people think twice next time.

As for us, we're usually lucky if we can get on site before 5pm!

I don't think charging an early arrival fee will deter people, in fact i think the opposite would happen! More people would turn up early and pay the fee just to get their 'favourite' pitch or one of the better pitches.

People who find they are at their destination too early always have the option of parking up in a layby or at a service station for a while to ensure they don't arrive before 12 noon. The wardens do have other jobs to do before 12 noon and some sites shut the office while they are doing these jobs (ie cleaning toilet block) so early arrivals don't have a choice to enter the site before 12 noon.

Once people accept that they won't be allowed onto site until the stated time they won't keep arriving earlier.

But surely if you turn up early you stand less chance of getting a better pitch as they haven't been vacated yet??

Yes Rizzo there is that but a lot of times when we've been on site, many people leave quite early so there are usually quite a few pitches available.

You're right Lassie - people probably would just turn up early anyway and stump up the early arrival fee for the privilege of getting a good pitch. I sometimes forget how devious people can be!

The easy way would be to use the same idea as late cancelled bookings or no shows and that would be two strikes and all future bookings are cancelled and maybe no new bookings for a month. It would not take a lot to add that functionality to the booking system and I am sure it would frighten a lot of the rule benders.

I thought of that but wouldn't it encourage everyone to have at least one "early arrival" a year as no sanction?

Maybe but it would stop persistent early arrivals and if it was not successful then it could be one early arrival and then future bookings cancelled and no more for a month. It would be easy enough to fine tune the parameters or maybe combine it with the no-show late cancel misdemeanour's

That would only work if the Club saw it as an issue? Maybe we should start complaining to the club  about it?
