If you subscribe to sky at home, can you not just use the sky go option on a lap top ? I know this means relying on an internet connection, but could be worth looking at.
Hi, Whilst all the points above are good, i have found with using Sky the following points:-
1> Use old box or Sky+ box does not matter.
2> Use Std 60 cm oval sky dish and LNB either single or double/Quad output depending on box, but single will work with Sky+.
3> Both boxes will not show 100% of channel available un less sky card is inserted. Record and view recorded programs will not work on Sky+ box unless card is matched and is inserted, ALthough some deactivated cards still offer this feature!??
4> Take Box and card from home to view all channels if you have Sky.
5> It is not always possible to find a suitable location on a site with direct line of sight of sky in direction of satellites i.e. South East at 145°. Therefore also carry Arial for TV with freeview or freeview box etc.
6> Pay for a sky card to view other channels approx £20.00 from Sky - one off payment, otherwise pay £10.00 approx with sky for multi-room and use that box, but you will still need the double feed LNB etc.
7> Make sure you have the correct remote and Sky and Sky+ remotes are different.
Therefore best bet, use older sky box and single output LNB, pay nothing. Record programs at home and leave for the forth coming cooler nights to watch and catch up.
We use a mini tevion dish from Aldi we get a great signal , signal strength 84%, we house the dish on a 5ft scaffold pole , its where the jockey wheel goes and we get a superb picture in HD .
