A couple of minutes ago I had to shout at some kids to go play with their ball elsewhere and not amongst the caravans. They just moved further away from our caravan and continued playing with the ball.
They are all camping in a large tent so a ball will not damage a tent, but the annoying part is the parents are sat their watching them!
Ball has gone under the our neighbours car twice and the kids have had to crawl under to get it.

I think it is really sad that they have banned cycling, surely a better alternative would be to ban vehicles from parking next to their units and after pitching insist that all vehicles are left in a carpark with the exception of disabled. This would mean fewer cars speeding round the campsite and make it safer for cyclists and any other children playing too.
How many club sites have a car park with 80 or more spaces ??

Well at the moment the ban seams to be at the discretion of the sites wardens, we have now moved further south and although this small CC site is fairly quiet during the day, come 6pm its worse than a banger racing track with some very dangerous stunts being pulled out of sight of parents by youngsters on bikes and scooters, and some dressed in no more than a bikini or small pair of shorts, I hate to think of the horrific grazes these kids would suffer if they came off their machine at speed onto gravel.

The tricks include riding bikes with feet up on handlebars and arms folded, and at considerable speed. another favourite seems to be towing a scooter with a small infant holding onto the rear mudgard of the bike, precariously close to spinning wheel spokes that could easily break a childs fingers in seconds, and finally using the newly installed speed ramps as jumps to do tricks, often with two up on one bike. all this is entirely solo, so not involving any poor motorist who may have the misfortune to get in the way of these little tearaways and budding 'Evil Kenevils' , but at least the true stunt guys have the common sence to wear the correct protective clothing before trying out their tricks.

Some of the culprits have been caught out by the wardens as they do tend to take an evening stroll of the site, we have seen them talking to them, but 10 mins later and we heard one youngster shout F-off as the wardens left our area of the site, and the whole situation just started up again.

It really does make me cringe seeing these youngsters putting themselves in such danger, i had a daughter who has a serious accident whilst out playing on Bike ramps when she was 11, she had a hangmans fracture of her cervical vertibra (broken neck) and it was touch and go for about 6 months as to if she would ever walk and lead a full life again, luckily she did, thanks to the surgeons expertise, but i would hate to see a similar thing happen to a child on a campsite.

unfortunately the current economic climate and weather climate has meant more newbies to caravans than ever this year .
what can be someones pleasure (getting p*ssed and letting the kids run wild in supposed safety) can be someones elses terror as there pride and joy be it car or caravan gets damaged by these little darlings .
i,m afraid the only answer is to visit adults only sites ,funnily enough they seem to be appearing at a good rate to this year .

I'm the VC of a kid's cycling club so you might say I'm not entirely impartial. I find the anti-cycling theme of many responses here really quite saddening (although I'm not saying I don't understand where many of you are coming from). Children are generally very robust creatures and bicycle accidents generally involve the most trivial of wounds. Most cyclists have had their fair share of grazes. They pick themselves up and have another go, usually having learnt from the short-term stinging that they ought to be a little more careful. I've just been to France for three weeks, kids routinely hare round on their bikes, scooters and the like, unaccompanied by parents and causing no hassle, having been brought up to believe that they have to give way to pedestrians.

I might suggest that parents who allow their children to ride with their feet on the handlebars and arms folded are from a different breed.

Motorists tend to drive at a crawl round continental campsites, fully expecting children and adults to be having fun.

It is a genuine shame that wardens don't deal with the odd exception properly: if a child abuses a warden then the whole family should be given their marching orders. I've seen this happen in Spain. Strangely, not a soul wanted to defend the family.

We stayed at Sandringham for the first time for a week from 4th August, and had a great time.

The site was full, it being school hols of course, and there were a great many kids on bikes. I think the problem arises because those of us who haven't been before don't realise that there is no cycling allowed on the paths in the woods. This isn't obvious from either the website or the handbook and we took our son's bike with us thinking he would be able to use it for woodland rides.  At 15 he was too old to ride around the site on it ,but I think that's why alot of younger kids end up doing just that. Parents have taken bikes thinking the children  are going to have alot  more room to ride about on them.

Also, the pitches are gravel and a great deal of the gravel has ended up on the tarmac site roads, not ideal for little cyclists!

Having said all the above, we lost count of the number of cars that drove past our pitch doing far more than 5 mph!

We must have arrived at Sandringham (on the 12th) just as you left Annie, and it was during that week that the total cycling ban on site came into force, we were pitched almost opposite the disabled bathroom, and spotted the warden putting up the notices on the entrances to the toilet blocks, OH went over for a nosey read afterwards and discovered the cycle ban notices, and its for the entire site, not just the woodland areas.

We are on a CC site at the moment where over thirty caravans have come on today. The number of outfits which have gone round the site at well over 5mph has to be seen to be believed.A couple of young children have been riding round carefully on their bikes. I know who I would ban!!!

we came back from a club site yesterday , fairly quiet but amazed by the amount of adults let alone kids who think its acceptable to cycle against the one way system .if mum and dad do it what hope is there for the kids ?? not all drivers would think to look the other way ( ie, against the one way system) when coming out from a pitch with their car , an accident is inevitable. and for kids under 7 to be left to their own devices on scooters , it beggars belief.
the site had contractors in one morning painting large arrows and 5 mph signs onto the tarmac roads but a good proportion of drivers ignored it , ditto the "1st gear only signs" . the age of some of the culprits you would expect them to know better.

You should realise that the Highway Code does not apply to cyclists in any shape or form. Traffic lights, pavements, no entry signs are just there to annoy motorists. It is good to see that the young children are learning to become such good cyclists

Having just returned from a commercial site where on the first night a bike was thrown into my caravan and the second day a boy scraped his handlebars against my car causing a deep scratch I am fully in support of banning bicycles from all sites.

Such a shame if the ban all cyclist on site, I don't have small ones anymore, but I do like seeing them riding around if safe and aware of the rules, such a shame when a small few ruin it for others.

Agreed, our kids at 12 & 9 like to take their bikes or scooters when we go away. Whilst they are not angels all the time we have taught them to be polite, respect other people and their property. We remind them en route to the site that if they want to use their bikes they must obey the rules, move out the way for pedestrians and give way to cars etc. They use them to commute to the play area generally, it is nice to see them and others enjoying themselves.

If someone breaks the rules or causes havoc - send em home, but dont spoil it for the rest of us.

For those who were not born until they were 50 or who still think that kids should be seen and not heard there is a growing number of adult only sites you can use.
