My oh is just persuading me to get a caravan to point of now looking! . I love being in the tent but the downside is always having to watch the weather and deal with wet tent, but worse is the mud and groundsheets.... I think oh has had enough of the packing up and setting up. Next year we want to go to France and I think it will be easier using caravan, particularly can do one night stops and be quicker to set up on arrival after long journey. I will only get a sun canopy type awning though (quicknand easy and no groundsheets) as I still want to be outside a lot as we do in our tent. Also doubt we will have a tv and unlikely to use shower in caravan. After tenting, a basic caravan will be luxury. I do worry I'll miss the Tent though.   bit worried about manoeuvring the caravan. I can't reverse the trailer very well at all!

I think that you have your answer. I would say that there aren't many people who regret moving from a tt to caravan. We certainly don't but the cost rocketed. We had to get a bigger car, pay for storage, servicing and more expensive insurance. We also made a mistake in that we were sure that we knew the layout we wanted but after 2 years changed to a completely different layout (which we now love) - more expense. But saying that, we go away all year round now. We've had some great holidays and now when the awning floods, it doesn't mean we have to paddle around in it, we just go inside the van, dry and warm.
Good luck in your ventures into the caravanning world

Having had the pleasure of a Conway TT and all the space that goes with it..including fixed beds and loads of space. With all those benefits comes the nights sleep before the possible wet pack away.(DREADFULL)

Big decision taken. TT sold. Caravan on drive. 3 Trips later. Bliss......Warm, dry and comfortable. With the awning on when necessary, I can still sleep in a tent if I choose ( when the forecast suits )

Do not hesitate....go for it....

Camped all my life.  Tents, trailer tents, folding campers, then had to make the decision and bought a caravan.  As with most people, I really enjoyed it.  Things changed again last year when I couldn't manage the caravan single handed, so I bought a motorhome ... absolutely brilliant!!  You just have to work out which would be better for you, then just go for it.  It's not the end of the world if you don't like it, you can always flog it next year and have a re-think.  There are plenty of places that store vans if you don't have the space at home.  As ghentjo says, you can always hang on to the tent for a while so you have the choice - that will make you mind up for you!

Interesting noone else mentioned that so far. There is potentially a large difference in costs between owning a TT and a caravan if you cannot store van at home and if you need a larger car to tow with, and increased fuel if doing lots of trips

The biggest upside I can see on a caravan is extended practical season

Due to Age and health changed from TT to caravan some years ago. I have never regretted it. More comfort, easier to set up and do not always use the awning. Storage £1.00 a day easy.

We had 3 different TT over the years, each time upgrading. Then we decided to get a caravan. It just wasnt the same, all cramped up and we also seem to sit inside much more than we ever did when we camped. So, after one last stressful and a disasterous tow, we decided to sell it and go back to TT.

After 2 years in a basic sunncamp TT , glamping i may add) we  are now the proud owners of a BAILEY PAGEANT CHAMPAGNE caravan, which we love. Its just me and hubby now so plenty of room we use the awnings so sit out side so can still chat to happy campers

John I wish we could find near us storage at that price, and still have the security we have. We could not get one nearer on concrete that is + the rest of Cassoa/ Cassao (whatever way its spelt .)17 Gold . £1.60 per day. But our insurance dropped dramatically when we mentioned where it was & Gold

. But the outlay was expensive, but the anguish this year should be easier from now on. Looking forward to 2nd Sept. off ofr 6 weeks. So a good first run out. Should know more about a lot of things after I hope.17

Being in a caravan with the wind howling, the waves on the shore crshing, and the deluge deluging against the roof. . . .THAT is living!

It might be better in a tent when you`re 18 yo, supposing it stays up . . . .

I have camped in various forms of since 1946  Late August, only 4 -5 mile away and 18 months old. The old canvas ridge tents that had to be re-proofed every year. Army type sleeping bags so thick, stiff & Khaki coloured served as good sledged when bumping down the stairs.  2 tandems & 2 single female bikes + 2 trailers hand made by dad was our transport. But NEVER EVER have we ever taken off or had our tent come down in wind & rain. ....... BUT

You ever touched the side of the tent you got not only soaked but clouted by whoever was in it with you. As the yougest I got away with a lot for a few years, but not for very long.

Unless its because I was in my young years or whatever I never saw any tent rip with wind. Was it less windy back then, did it really rain less, was it less muddy in the fields or was it we were too young to notice while we romped around in the whole lot of it getting dirty, bare footed, up to our eyeballs in mud. 17

None of it allowed nowadays I guess.17 ........great days we had.

We've just changed to a caravan after 2 trips out in the trailer tent! My wife wants the easy life so she won. Now all she's got to do is learn to reverse!

I drove into the garden and had about 3" either side to play with. The wife's response to that was, "Are we going to manhandle it out?"

I said, "NO, we'll get a ruddy crane!"

Now looking forward to some nice long breaks.
