Thanks everyone. I don't mind putting awning up and down in wet, i'm used to it from years of tenting.
I have somewhere to dry it out so it doesn't worry me too much. I think we'll go for it. I've checked the heater out etc so should be good! I'll let you know.
To rub it in my boss informed me before he's off in his tonight while i'll be at work all weekend. only a couple more weeks to wait!

Me and the other half went away the other week and it was not as bad as we thought it would be. Just make sure to wrap your water barrel up if you have any frost nothing worse then having no water when you need a coffeee in the morning lol!

when we first started caravanning we went winter, spring,summer & autumn. this year we've just decided to put it away for now. might get it out to go and see seals at donna nook in nov or december.

make sure you read about winter vanning on here before you go. if it is too cold you will have to bring your water in over night.
if it snows you may have to leave your caravan on site and come home. make sure it's ok to leave it and that it will be safe.
we always ask and listen to these good folks on this forum before we go anywhere for the first time.there's a lot of years of vanning experience on here.use it.

We are off for our first trip in our old (new to us) ABI on the 11th November for 4 nights, we're staying at Home Farm near Burnham on Sea for the carnival on the 12th.

I must admit I love it in the van during the cold months. Last night we went for a walk at 1AM through the New Forest and returned to a lovely warm van, snuggied into the sleeping bag and had a nice deserved sleep.

The other good things about using the Van in winter is you can give it a good airing and warm it up a bit, give everything a wash etc.

Mind you, I'd love to know why a van creates more dust in an hour than a house would in a year.

Think I'm just in love with being away from home. The thought of being somewhere different no matter the weather.

I have just got back from a weekend away in Alyth, we had temperatures of -2.5 and the first snow of the year. Used an old rug and black polly bag to winterize the fresh water aquaroll. snug as bug in a rug

We got our first caravan on 5 oct and have done two weekend, the second was this weekend...crisp cold days and -2 overnight, but hearing on and we were all snug and warm!

It's gone away now though as we have 4 children and with the shorter days its no fun all being in top of each other and antagonising children kind of detract from the enjoyment of it all. If it was just me, hubby and 2 kids now that would be different!
