Just come back from sutton on sea, lincs. Blowing a gale all week but last night was the worst, did'nt get any sleep last night we should have stayed till the weekend but it was still bad so we left the van on site and came home, we know the owner of the site well so no problem!. We will wait until it calms down and go and fetch it back ,it's only an Hours drive away, we also have had some fence damage at home with the wind plus some roofing felt has ripped off one of my sheds. Going to be busy for the next few days. I have been caravaning for the last 45 years and this was the worst week we have ever had.

Yes really wild near Malton. Glad we didn't put up the awning when we arrived. Not letting up. Surprised there have been no severe weather warnings.
Its been forecasting very strong winds on the news every day recently.
I'm just surprised people don't take awnings down when it is windy.

You can't take awning down in the wind unless there is ten of you.

Had to give in an take it down, some friends came to theirs which had flipped over ontop on the van, helped them sort out the mess then we took mine down as one of the poles had started to bend. No way could i have done it alone as 3 of us struggled. The wind had dropped a little but the gusts were so strong. Loads of awnings on site have been totally wrecked. Going to invest in some extra poles to make it more secure as were seasonal.

I've been camping/caravanning all my life, and one of the basic things you do is watch the weather. Like pitching a tent in a hollow when heavy rain is expected.
You take the awning down BEFORE the wind rises too much, or simply don't put it up in the first place.
If you have a static with an awning, then that is a risk you take.

Thanks for that freeatlast, i may not have been caravanning long but i do have common sense an would have taken it down prior if i had been able to get there with an extra pair of hands to help out. I am also well aware its the risk i take by been on a seasonal pitch an leaving my awning up during spring an summer, i was just showing concern an some sympathy for those who had suffered damage
