Used a wonderful gem of a site just outside of Jedburgh, and when we travelled up we used the A68, much easier as long as you can ignore the eejits who have to be at their destination yesterday.
Had a drive up to Melrose (without the van) a few weeks back was surprised at the number of speed cameras that had been vandalised, even more surprised to find those that hadn't were also accompanied by mobile speed camera vans a few yards further down the road, whats all that about?
Anyhows sure you will enjoy your hols, have a look at Hawick and Peebles, but as jerry and tina mentioned, those pies.......

Hi Tom,

Yes it will be for holidays. We are going to Invernahavon (Newtonmore) for a week or so then over to a CL just north of Oban for a few days then back down near Dumfries to another CL for a few more days then home.

Hi Jerry+Tina,
that Newtonmore site looks nice, the only sites we have been to is Bunree CC & Edinburgh CC, Bunree is one of the most picturesque sites you could ever wish for ,,the scenery leading to it from Glasgow is stunning, roads aren't too bad either..
4 weeks to go for Melrose .....

We have booked Bunree for a few nights on our way up to Elgin area but am not sure about going up the Loch Lomond road so am swinging around by the M80 and M9 then across to Callander . It is only slightly longer.

We just got back from the Gibson Park site at Melrose and we had 5 nights there.

A great site but try to get a pitch on the left hand side as you drive in. (The Housing Estate side).

The other side is next to the Playing Fields where the occasional ball comes sailing over the fence onto the vans!

Melrose itself has great shops and the Butchers, the Bakers and the Greengrocer is all just 5 mins walk from the site.

Oh and in the Bakers, don't forget to get some Selkirk Bannocks.

Hi ,,Jerry &Tina
really enjoyed our stay in Melrose ,,butchers was as expected -lush. stayed away from left hand side next to the houses, carried on further round near back wall ,would stay there again.
when we visited Bunree,we passed Stirling on the M9 leading to A84 to callender ,join the A85 to Crianlarich.      A82 up thru to Glen Coe & on to Onich. We took a trip on the Corran Ferry over Loch Linney .try the cable car up to Ben Nevis,,,, shops in Fort William .   enjoy

Hi Tom,

Glad you enjoyed Melrose, and the butchers.  We intend to go to Onich following your route after an o/night stop at Lockerbie. After Bunree we are heading up the side of Loch Ness around Inverness then across to the Elgin area for a few days. Then we shall take a short hop back down the A9 to Invernahavon for a week then onto Edinburgh (Roslin) to visit relatives.

FAO Lobbey : Made a note of Selkirk Bannocks. Wife normally goes straight for the Ecclefechan tart from the bakers at Melrose.

For those of you thinking about going that way and not booked yet there is a cracking CL at Dallaculish Farm about 10 miles North of Oban. The views are stunning.
