Propane is more suited for the UK climate especially if you intend to tour in winter so possibly why they suggest propane.

Calor dealers are usually happy to exchange any cylinder.

Last year a 1/2 filled 6KG bottle lasted 12 days away inc. hot water, lots of cooking and some heating.

Guess we'll get x2 diddy propanes.

We do go 'vanning in the colder months, so best to go for them to be safe come the cool time.

One last thing... would they exchange x1 15kg butane for x2 3.9kg propanes?

Not sure if your using Calor cylinders but if so I hope the link below may be of use to you, but would echo earlier advise do not use the cylinder laid on its side, good look anyway.

I'm more surprised you can't stand a 7kg bottle upright in your front locker, not seen one that wasn't tall enough.
Anyway, I'd always recommend propane over butane.
