Open up the pistol grip which is in two parts held together by clips. Remove the hose clip, cut the hose shorter by about 6 inches, then cut the wires shorter by the same amount, replace hose clip and fit new connectors to wiring if you cannot use old ones. Pump now only just touches bottom of water barrel and no more kinks.
PS I have not tried this yet as our pump is still under warranty for 2 years, but it is the plan for the future unless we buy a spare. We are now on our third pump. First one pistol grip fell apart, second one worked intermittently after a couple of months and was replaced last month
My inlet is just above my aquaroll so I place my aquaroll forward of the inlet as water heater vent is near the rear with the cap nearest the inlet couple up and never had any problems since I converted from a Crystal to an Ultraflow about three years ago.
